Title: Fixing borked HDD?
Post by: funkychicken9000 on October 13, 2006, 16:29:19 PM
Belongs to a mates dad.

Basically, it wont boot.  CHKDSK fails to complete on it.  Plugging it in as a slave and attempting to access it from within windows yields a "Drive not formatted" message.

Any reccomendations on where to go from here / which software to use to try and get the data back off it?

GetDataBack for NTFS or FAT ftw

If not, find a copy ;) of EasyRecovery Pro

Cheers

try your slave method again into windows then use a copy of getdataback. This should allow you to view and retrieve the files from whatever partions are still on the drive. Worked for me on my HDD.

edit.. thats what happens when you pause while posting!!!

If its *really* important data and the above suggestions dont work then it would be time to get the experts in but that would be expensive...

google up "Ultimate boot CD".  I use is for various things, including data recovery.  Gots lots and lots of little utilities that can pull back most things.

How about... forgetting about all of the data recovery bollocks above.

Googling up "spinrite 6" and giving that a go. I am sure an enterprising young man such as yourself can find a version of it floating around on the etherweb.
