I cannot find article in english  but this guy Peter Löthberg have fixed the worlds fastest internet for his mom 40 Gbit Stockholm - Karlstad and 20 Gbit
Karlstad - Carlifornia (there he lives) This over fiber built for max 10 Gbit.
He is using a new technique that is put in the ends of the fiber and works on
distances up to 2000 kilometers with out any transponders inbetwix.
To move a high resolution DVD from stockholm to Karlstad takes about 2 seconds !!!!
