papola

Installed it as root, running as me? no permissions

cant install as a user either, even in my home directory for some reason, got permissions issues on some folders in there (weird stuff)

I could CHMOD a file somewhere - it created a symlink which I dont have permission to.

trying an uninstall now, and then reinstall without symlink...  but ..i dunno whatever. lame installer by google, Ill give them 2 out of 10 for effort there

the program itself runs 100% fine as root, but i do not want to be like a windows user, and run as an admin all the damn time.

:edit:

symlink removed (its /usr/local/bin/googleearth) - I could CHMOD it I suppose, but Ill create a custom launcher on my desktop with a big ass earth picture as its icon instead straight to the file itself !

:edit again:

still no joy, this totally sucks ass :(

I did a:
sudo chmod 777 -R /usr/local/google-earth

which sets read, write, execute permissions to EVERYONE on that folder, and everything in it (-R = recursive) and i STILL cant run it as myself

wtf is up with that?!?!  :?:

I just did a recursive permission change on the folder in /usr/local.

Quote from: maximusotterI just did a recursive permission change on the folder in /usr/local.

hmmm that might be the way to do it then! suppose theres not an awful lot in there

you came across this issue too? not just me, being a total spoon then

:edit:

what did you change the permissions to?

this is @Ã,£$"ing pissing me off now :x

Ive even run a:
sudo nautilus --no-desktop and set the permissions (basically given read/write/execute on all the boxes, and set the owner to myself) and still no worky, getting:

matt@ubuntu:~$ /usr/local/google-earth/googleearth
symlink: Permission denied

I have no idea where this sodding symlink is, its obviously somewhere else perhaps... I dunno :x
