Since playing WOW, ive been experiencing problems which I think is graphics related.

Randomly the FPS rate drops right right down to 3 or 4, and the game freezes........which isnt good when your fighting something!! Its not my internet, as ive had a mate round with his laptop and when my game spazzed out his was totally fine!

Ive tried three different drivers, but I found the best seemed to be an older Omega driver. So any ideas really?? My PC isnt the best, but im sure it should play WOW flawlessly.

AMD Athlond64 3500+
Radeon 9200
512Mb RAM <--------------- could this be a problem???
250Gb HD.....nearly empty.

wow is a big memory whore, I wasnt happy untill I went upto 2gb.

TBH I actually thought I had 1Gb..........as I got this computer free! Might stick a stick of 1GB in then TBH. Just thought it was graphics related as the FPS dropped really low when the freezing began.

PuNk

Yeah i lent a stick of 1gig to someone, and never really noticed a difference till i started WoW again, big memory whore.

chrisdicko

Actually....thinking about it when it starts going really slowly etc, the hard drive makes a lot of noise like its searching for something.......could this be because its using the swap file or what ever its called because the PC has run out of memory?

Leon

That could be one reason yep.

My wow still hates me when I go into cities, run at around 80 FPS everywhere else but soon as I enter org or shatt it just crawls for abit.

Oh and make sure you have V-Sync disabled in options, its not worth the huge resources it uses unless you have lots of spare power :)

Yeah, its quite bad in Iron Forge.......thats when I first started noticing it TBH.

Will turn that off as well, cheers.

White Giant

Memory & CPU, it whores them both - its not too bad on graphics.

Try turning the draw distance to minimum, made quiter a difference for me, might not be wise if youre a big PVPer though (not sure if it affects player models?).

Oh yeah, 2gb is defo recommended.

chrisdicko

Cool, cheers :) Will open up my pc tonight and see what memory I have installed, and then get some more ordered up :)

Was changed in 2.3 to draw player models at max range regardless of settings, was changed to give the slower computers not be disadvantaged in PVP

Prity much the same spec PC a friend has, he also had the same problem, so bumped in some RAM and its working in WoW a lot more smoother, if its your first run into IF or any other big cities from starting up WoW freshly expect it to be choppy the first time :)

Yeah thought Id read something like that.

while youre waiting for the extra memory to come... ctrl+alt+del.... then end task on pretty much evetything (it wont let you get rid of anything important)

should free up a few extra megs for you :-)

Memory is that cheap these days, I wouldnt run Windows apps on less than 2Gb. If I was gaming again Id be looking at 4Gb+

Theres nothing worse than hearing a HDD thrashing away while youre playing and the bottleneck making every go s-l-o-o-o-o-o-w-w-w
