Every time U2 release something like this (full of hypocrisy) it coincides with an album release strangely enough. People will keep buying too, they and the record label are laughing all the way to the bank.

It totally discredits any merit of the video.

Wow, that has no basis in reality. They dont have an album to promote, though there may be one late next year. Green Day doesnt have an album to promote either. This all started randomly with 7 guys drinking pints then hanging out at Abbey Road studios and banging some songs out and ended with them having a great cover to sing together at the reopening of the Superdome in NO this fall. Its not like they could have coordinated that with the city. Musicians love that town, its a Mecca, and I cant be cynical about something that smells as sincere as this. Its just punk rock. Geez.

Greenday sunk too an extreme low at American Idiot.. Then to do this totally destroyed my thought of how the band is now. Old days brilliant, these days, I have no idea whats going on with them.

QuoteU218 Singles is the first single-disc collection - including 16 of their best-known songs. Also included are two brand-new tracks recorded with producer Rick Rubin at Abbey Road Studios in London: "The Saints Are Coming" (with Green Day) and "Window in the Skies."

Maybe I am being cynical after all, but I dont have any faith in U2 these days.

LOL, fanboiism at its finest. People grow up, do different stuff. You cant lock your favorite band in some carbonite and have them sound the same forever. People said that about U2. I loved them when I was younger and they were quite punk and raw, then the cries of "sellout" when the quite contrived if well done "Joshua Tree" and every album since then. I dont listen to them much any more, save a couple Tracks from Elevation, which are quite good, but finger pointing at evolution is silly.

I think its a sh*t hot cover. :D

ARGGH MY EARS!!

u2 do indeed need to break up their delay pedal and realise the edge isnt very sharp.

also greenday need to be reeducated

Its a straight up cover of a Skids classic punk number to benefit kids in NOLA. You people have the wierdest hangups. The playing is fine, as its a fudking punk number. The video showing an alternative history is brilliant, but nobody says a thing about it, cause its so bloody cool to hate on Bono and Billy Joe. Get over yourselves folks. Its just a bit of fun for charity.

Anyway, I dont really trust the musical opinion of somebody thats a big Meat Loaf fan. :P

Im not questioning their ethics at releasing a charity record, thats laudable in itself, Im not questioning their playing capability either both have produced great stuff in the past.

Bono is great, I love some of his stuff, Green Day have produced some good stuff too, especially things like wake me up when September comes and Holiday. What I am questioning is the choice of music in this specific case. This is just the wrong track for them IMO

[edit] I have no problems with punk either, I spent a good bit of my teens listening to that   [/edit]
