well ive approached the university to help fix my laptop, they have referred me to a third party contractor who will contact me on monday.

worst case scenario, how much would a new motherboard for an advent 7016 laptop.

thanks guys. found a motherboard on ebay but im not sure.

thoughts?

Mardoni

Add a tiny bit more from your student loan and get yourself a new lappy from dell; try for a 2/3 years onsite support

If it is really just the power connector, then anyone who tries to sell you a new motherboard is taking the piss.  A new connector and 10 mins soldering max.

Eggtastico

Before jumping down the new motherboard route, you should ask around for anyone who can solder to give it a go putting a new connector.. if they f**k it up, theyve f**ked it. You was gonna buy a new board anyway.

redneck

it isnt the connector, it charged teh battery to 80% and then decided not to boot, hence motherboard.

cheers for the advice anyway, im looking at worst case scenario.

Sweenster

would be cheaper to buy a new laptop than pay for repairs that involve replacing a motherboard.

trying to get hold of a laptop motherboard to replace one that is bust wouldnt be easy i imagine, would be from vendor and connecting it all up etc wouldnt be good

Serious

Ask them how much they want for the repairs first, if its expensive get a second hand one. Reuse the hard disk in an external case and offer the rest on fleabay as is. If you are lucky it might get you a few quid back and make it worthwhile.

Beaker

crack it open, pull the BIOS Battery out, leave it for an hour, then come back, drop a Bettery back in and try and boot it up.

If your going with seriouss suggestion, Id also take the processor out :) If its like my athlon one, it can be used in a desktop pc too :D

Eggtastico

redneck

cheers for the advice guys. i dont know what to do now.
