This weekend just gone I was pottering around town and I noticed the 360 price drops, this got me thinking (again) about trading in my 360 Premium for an Elite.
My reason for trading is that my TV has one set of component inputs that the 360 uses and as a result I have to stick my cable box into the TV using Scart which results in a crappy picture. If I got an Elite then I could use HDMI for the 360, freeing up the component for the cable box.
(I tried running the cable component through my AV receiver but the receiver completely borks the signal :()

So I went into Game and had a chat with the manager. I told him what I was thinking of doing and after running through a list of all the stuff Id be willing to trade he was pretty certain that I could upgrade without any additional cost. My Premium + games + accessories would cover the £260 Elite pretty comfortably.
I then came home and thought about it some more. The main thing putting me off was the possible introduction of a Blueray SKU. Id be pretty gutted if after upgrading to an Elite a new SKU came out with an integrated BR drive but after doing some more reading I think its unlikely that any 360 BR drive would be integrated, its more likely that itll be an add-on like the HD-DVD drive.

Anyway, that was Saturday ;)
On Sunday I decided to wait and give it some more thought. No point rushing in, its not like the prices are going to go up is it !

Then out of the blue on Monday night my Premium decided to die. Full on RROD :(
So I swore a little and sorted out getting it returned to the service centre. I then thought, "its ok, Ive got a load of movies I want to watch...". But no, I cannot. My 360 is my DVD player, my HD-DVD player and my music centre too :( Arrghhhh.

For the past two evenings Ive had to make do with clearing up, sorting through paper work and watching crappy TV.
Needless to say Ive arrived at the end of my tether. Im kinda shocked that its happened so quickly but there you go, I have a short attention span :p

I was tempted to just go into town today and pickup an Elite but then something told me to get a hold of myself. I now find myself in a battle of will power and as a delay tactic I thought I would post this to see what other people think...

Should I just wait for my Premium to return ? Could be another 10 - 20 working days :(
If I wait, should I trade it in and get an Elite ?
Should I just go and buy an Elite and then sell the Premium on eBay when it returns ?
If I buy one now should I trade in the games and accessories or should I sell the lot as a bundle ?

Or, in all seriousness, should I get a grip ?

Oh, Game also had a second user Elite for £200. I was toying with getting that but I am not sure how happy Id be with a second hand console myself and for the sake of £60 I think Id just prefer the safety of knowing that its under warranty et all. Do you think thats the right decision or would you buy the secondhand one ?

Get a grip and wait mate, hopefully they wont of had to delete all your save games on the hard drive :p

Just pull out some old consoles? Mega Drive, Snes? Got to have something around to play on. Oh or go get layed ;)

I didnt vote because i couldnt see the option to goto Tescos and buy

for £20, while you wait patiently for your Xbox to come back :P

Nice little find that Bacon :)

DVD +/- formats, MPEG4 Playback, XVID Playback

The only downfall is i couldnt find a multi region unlock for it when i tried just after i bought it.

The previous revision that tesco was selling had a working unlock, i hoped i would get the previous model but i got this one in the end :D

So if anyone can find me a multi region unlock for it, id be greatful :P

Bah, youre not helping me justify my spend :p

Im in tonight as I have some work to do but I fear that tomorrow might just tip me over the edge.

I have a Sony DVD player here but the poxy thing is region locked and can only be unlocked using some crazy ass universal remote trick or a programmer :s

Last guy i know sent his 360 in for repair he got a Falcon console back.  While it isnt standard to do it, im told it isnt unusual either.

zpyder

I say wait till you get yours back. See if for some reason you are jammy like the guy in Beakers post.

If not, trade it in, but Id say dont trade all your games, as youll end up needing to buy new ones for the elite, unless you hate them all? Fork out a little for the difference (How much would all the dongles cost to split/combine the 360 and cable into one?)

And trade up. If youre like me you might not play half the games youve got ever again. In which case losing them to get an upgrade isnt too much of a loss. Then if the Blu ray one comes out, see about an upgrade from an elite to that and maybe fork over a little of the difference? I mean, what would the price difference be for a trade on an elite + a little ££, compared to buying a Blu-Ray player?

Serious

Try and find a component input switch box so you can plug both into the TV at the same time. You dont watch them both simultaneously do you?

Have a search on fleabay, you should be able to find something for under twenty squid ;)

Goblin

Wait til it comes back on the chance you get a Falcon back. The other option is to trade the premium in against a new premium which has HDMI, unless you really need the 120Gb HDD (or really want black). Means you could get away with trading in less stuff.
It's all fun and games until a 200' robot dinosaur shows up and trashes Neo-Tokyo... Again.

Theyre right, do the smart thing and wait to see what you get back from MS. I desperately want to go out and get an Elite, but Im being sensible and waiting until I can afford it fully and seeing where the prices go with these new SKUs coming out, as I dont want to settle for a Premium.

It will be worth the wait for some Guitar Hero and GTA action.

Mardoni

Yeah I know youre all right but its disappointing ;)

Ill take a look at a component splitter but although I dont watch them both at the same time, they are generally both on together which would mean that a manual switch box would be needed...and tbh I am too lazy for that :p

I was toying with the idea of just getting a Premium w/ HDMI but I thought that for the little extra Id might as well get an Elite. Thinking about it some more I dont need the 120gb HDD at all, so I could just settle for a premium.

I think Im going to try and persevere but only time will tell whether or not I have the will power.

Btw, going down the pub every night for the next fortnight would easily cover the cost of an Elite ;)

zpyder

That just dawned on me.

Tbh Im happy with my bog standard 3 year old 360. Next console if anything will be a PS3...
