Need to knock up a quick website with details of an item for private sale. The web address will be included in magazine adverts for this product. I need a small amount of hosting for around a year and a domain name to go with it.
I have been looking at godaddy.com as they seem large and reputable. Am i right in thinking that I can just buy 12 months hosting and a domain at the same time, and then just upload the html for the website and it will all work swimmingly? And Im offered linux or windows hosting. Does it matter which I choose? Not looking to be doing anything fancy as the website will be simple, just some descriptions and lots of photos.
So would the basic godaddy pacakge do this? And will the domain be automatically linked to the hosting space or does that require setting up?
Also, any reccomendations for something that will generate me an ok-looking page with pics etc, as I cba to learn html basics for a 10 min job.
Cheers guys!
yes your right on the length of it.
The domain name may require linking up (not a godaddy user so not sure unfortunately) but if it does there will be a nice howto in the support section of the godaddy website. Normal practice however is to have your domain automatically filled in for you (will require around 48hrs to become active worldwide).
Basic godaddy package would be fine, some images, some webspace and thats all you need.
Linux and windows... all depends on if you want ASP.net or PHP development. As your doing neither go for the one which comes with the most extras.
Templates: Head to http://www.oswd.org and try a download of there, they are free and quick to edit in a html editor.
Failing that Dreamweaver often comes with quite nifty templates that you can just use and load up. Fire up the 30day trial version of it, create a website using the templates provided... voila sorted.
Final solution, chuck a fiver/tenner at someone here and have them knock up a quick page for you. If its just a product page and some pictures... itd take a few minutes.
godady interface takes a moment to locate and understand the features but then its easy to do what you want once you know where everything is.
I moved my domain over to them so unsure about buying one from them but sorting the transfer and setting up was a doddle.
