In case youve not seen the other thread ! Im running Fedora Core 5 and using Gnome.

I want to install an application, BNR2, for downloading from Newsgroups with. After doing some searching around, BNR2 appears to be the only available client that comes with a GUI, so its my only choice :)

The problem I have is that the Installation notes say this:

Quote from: http://www.bnr2.org/BNR-Install-Wizard.txtOTE: Currently this installer needs KDE installed to obtain
root status. Im looking for a solution to making the
installer GNOME compatible. You might be able to run
this installer from a terminal using sudo or su.

So how do I actually install it ? This is the Download List

use apt-get or whatever is on fedora as youll spend a month filling the dependancies.
And yes it does work fine. Does fedora come with the choice at boot time as to which enviroment you want to boot to?

yeah I think I can *swap* to KDE but I didnt know (and cannot find out) whether thatll shag Gnome ?

(Its another inconsistant PITA tbh) :)

Saying that, its just hung (first time since I thought I had found the problem) and now wont reboot...so it might be time to try out Ubuntu ;)

just install what you like. Apps are generally made for either but will run in either if the dependancies are resolved.

KDE apps run fine under Gnome or vice versa. KDE apps are dependent on the QT libraries so will take a couple seconds more to fire up. No big deal.

You can have KDE, Gnome, XFCE, Openbox, Fluxbox, Enlightenment, and any number of desktop environments all installed at the same time. Matters little. Choose your DE when you log in. Its not like windows, as they can all get along fine and sing kumbayah.
