Look any good?
looks interesting but no ide how good itd be.
Ive got one... bought it from that very same seller too !
just arrived the other day and I havent had a chance to use it (need to copy some stuff off the HD ive got for it first)
give me a few hours and Ill post back ;)
looks cool, shame there arent any left
Just look the persons shop, there are more there.
got mine up and running, and its pretty awsom so far :)
comes with a power lead, transformer, screws, usb leas, network patch lead, and even a little screwdriver... putting the drive in took about 3 min (at a guess)
took all of 5 min to setup via websetup thing, just had to format the drive, and enable anon. ftp read/write :)
copying stuff over to it right now... only getting about 4 meg / sec at the mo... where 8+ is more normal for ftp over the network... but I don;t know how much is down to the fact that Im only my old computer, and i dont have any speed info for my other nas drive.... :(
"feels" just as quick as the other one tho
much easier to set-up as well :)
Im going to buy another one...... right now !
actually.... I bought another 2 !
How is the Samba support? Can you give various levels of access?
;)
so, its just making folders and passwording them for everyone
tho ftp has read/write options
That GUI looks naff :p
But if it works and you can access the HDD then its all good. I am thinking about getting one of these now too :s
bugger, all the good stuff is for sale when iv got no cash :( lol
lollerskates :)
Chances are mine will be forsale in the forums towards the end of the month ;) I have a short attention span and a huge ability to buy stuff I dont really need :)
If it cannot support NFS or CIFS itll be no good for what I want it for :)
yeah its fat32 only (fat32 is apparently suported by more OSs)
the gui does look a bit naff.... but it;s fifty times better than my other nas box which has a fancy gui !
Work better with latest firmware and Gui.
Ive still not received mine from said eBayer, so I dropped him a whinge :(
Could this be my first hokey sale in 6+ years of ebaying ?
I have :-

Its hooked up to my xbox 360 so doubles up to give the xbox internet connection as well.
# In a Nutshell, the Asus WL-HDD is a compact external hard disk that
provides Ethernet and 802.11g wireless NAS features. It functions as an
Sccess Point or a Wireless client.
It also includes by default some handy features such as a DHCP and FTP
server.
# Whilst the Firmware that comes installed on the WL-HDD provides basic functionality,
if unofficial firmware is installed (Olegs firmware), the WL-HDD effectively
becomes a mini linux box running a small linux distribution and allowing the
installation of many standard linux packages and services
I too also get only 4mb over ftp, but its more than fast enough to feed the xbox with tasty movie nuggets.
mine took a while to come, but was sent an email saying how items from the far east were getting delayed
yeah, mine took a couple or weeks iirc
got 3 of them running now :)
there not that quiet when the HD is running... but set the HD power down time to 5 min, and when your not using it (99% of the time for me) then its silent :)

Nicest looking GUI is called webm_ multilingual.dat
and the latest firmware.
has anyone else noticed netwrok slowdown when your copying onto one of these ?
if i drag and drop via windows, or use ftp me network crawls to a halt, cant even brows the web properly.... if i use ftp and limit it to 1m/s then it all runs ok... ?
the thing is... it only goes at a little over 3meg/s anyway... so its not like its maxing it out :o
looks like firmware upgraded sorted it :)
edit: no it hasnt, it;s just improved it a bit :(
even if I limit ftp to 1000kb/s my web downloaded drop from 200k to ~40k :(
maybe its something on the pc Im using and not the drive tho ?
according to task managfer, with nop speed limits, network usage is about 25%.... ftp limited to 1,000k its only 8%
the more I limit it, the faster my web downloads go :(
transfering 9gig at 1000k = slooooow :(
doh, was a network card setting :$
