well i think my laptop is about dead. it doesnt recieve charge anymore, the power socket is completly gone (you were right guys, when i took it to uni, he said it was teh power socket)

what are teh alternatives to getting it repaired again, considering ive already spend around Ã,£120 getting it repaired.

get the bits out of it that are worth something

Then there are 2 options

Use them as spares, put the hdd in a caddy etc

Sell the bits on ebay and hope to make some money

If your Splitting, do some research on the TFT as it can usually be used in a lot of different laptops. Just find the Part number and search google. Should find the manufacturer or at least some other makes/models its compatible with.

If your splitting. Check the processor as you can use the athlons perfectly fine in a normal Socket A motherboard.

Also the sodimms could maybe be used in a mini-itx system.

Then finally sell the shell for spares and repairs.

Definately remove the hard drive as well of course, and the CD-ROM could also be removed and sold seperately.

Its a piece of piss, crack it open, resolder the plug/fit a new one/solder flyleads that come out the back and chop the plug off the charger, solder to that etc.  20 mins work.  Whered the Ã,£120 go?!

Depends... Granted its piss to fix normally, providing your a dab hand with a soldering iron but the pads on a motherboard are bloody microscopic.

Quite easy to spend Ã,£120 on a power issue Id think.

First: new charger - Ã,£20-Ã,£25.
Second...: Battery - Ã,£50 - Ã,£80
Third: Laptop service centre - Ã,£40-Ã,£50.

Or rather something along those lines.

No, theres probably nearish 3 amps going through those pads, theyre never microscopic on power sockets.  Heres how Id break it down:

First: multimeter - Ã,£5 (or free if you know someone with one)
Second: test to find exactly whats fecked
Third: resolder the power socket

Aye but Red isnt an engineering student hes a designer. The last time he saw a multimeter was back in school probably.

We know he went to a rip off merchant of a laptop repair centre from his previous posts. So its quite easy to see how he spent so much.

Granted you, or anyone with some electronics knowledge would happily fix it, but not everyone is that confident with electronics.

In fact if your that confident its a 5 minute job, how about offering to do it for him for a couple of bob! Sort out his problem nicely
