Im going to save up for a laptop over the next couple of months, probably £400 - £500 maybe more depending on how much I can save.

Where is the best place to buy a laptop from in your opinion?

Best prices is what Im looking for.

Im really liking the Toshibas at the moment.

Thatd be perfect tbh, maybe a 1GB of ram however and then Id be set.

Where else would people look?

Urgh, Tosh, i wouldnt touch it with a rotten cock.  I support Tosh lappys at work, and We all have them for working from home as well.  The M3s and M5s are crappy, and they are at the more expensive end of the scale as well IIRC.

Ive got good things to say about HP and Acer.  The ones I have experience with seem to work well, and their service is excellent.  HP usually take us 2-5 working days urnaround if we send them back to the service depot, Acer is 3-5.  Tosh at the moment we worke dit out as 2-5 weeks.

my views are complete opposite.

Ive had very few tosh problems than I have had with Acer & HP.
If you work at one place, who use just the one laptop, then your bound to get problems & think their sh*t.
I wouldnt touch anything from acer. poor build quality backed up equally by their poor support.

The Fujitsu-Siemens Ive been supporting for the last 2 years seem to be reliable enough as well.

Seconded. Im on an Acer now and the build quality is very poor. They are cheaper than other options but for good reason. This one is going back for a screen / graphics card update because the screen keeps going fuzzy.

*shrug*

we use whatever we the customer wants to buy.  So we have HP, Tosh, Acer and IBM.  The IBMs are pretty neat and no tmuch goes wrong.  The HP, Acer and Tosh all go wrong at about the same level, but the service from HP and Acer beats the hell out of Toshs "Sorry we dont keep Motherboards in for this model" rubbish.  The Domestic HPs ive no great love for, they are irritatingly fragile, the nc series stuff (Excepting the nc6220) have been pretty good really.

I like the wireless app, but the random infinite mouse-scrolling is an annoying feature, just put out half a dozen t60s and I had to run round and sort all the touchpads out.

tbh whatever you get if it goes wrong you just take it back to the store you got it from, you shouldnt need to deal with the manufacturer at all. Id buy off the highstreet, that way its easier to raise hell and get a replacement immediately.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Interesting. Ive had that problem a few times on my T40 and assumed it was just because its second hand and was screwed by the previous owner. Is it actually fixable?

Id recommend IBM. Dont get many problems with them at work. They also have the best keyboards and touchpads in my experience.

Yah, undocumented as far as the internet goes too, got brownie points at work for it :)

iirc go control panel, mouse, its the tab on the far right and the option is called long distance scrolling - uncheck the box.

I hate the touchpads, especially when they new. Nasty texture. Dont like the mouse buttons either and the keyboards cant take heavy duty pissed-off typing - I had keys fly off while I was typing the other day :D
