Sam

Oooo you went, tell us all then

Walrusbonzo

Well.........

I got there at 8am so was the one of the first there other than the people that slept over night.  I think I was about 30th in the queue.

Spent all day just chatting to all the people around, Id say in the first 50 people only 4 or 5 were English, there was an Irish girl too.  Other than that it was loads of Americans, some Aussies, some Canadians and I think some Brazilians too(50 different countries were represented by the audience).  Quite a few of us were on TV as well and no doubt will be in the papers as people around me were being interviewed.  A very pretty girl with dark brown dreads who had slept the night did a significant interview with the BBC.  Took it in turns to leave the queue, go toilet, get food etc.  All the people were so friendly, letting you back in the queue, think a load of us will be starting a facebook group.  Called.................

I WAS IN THE FRONT ROW AT THE AHMET ERTEGUN TRIBUTE CONCERT.

I got to the front, I was right on the barrier.  It was well worth waiting the 10 hours of queueing.

Had some nutty older female fan next to me with two bouquets of flowers, one for Robert and and one for Jimmy.  She was hell bent on giving the flowers to them personally.     Security had different ideas.

Another guy next to me had a signed t-shirt given to him by John Bonhams grand kids.

The show started with Keith Emerson(Emerson Lake and Palmer), Chris Squire(Yes) and Simon Kirk(Bad Company) performing "Fanfare For The Common Man".

Cant remember exact order now, but Paul Rodgers did "All Right Now" and another song as tribute to Elton John for some reason.  Bill Wymans rhythm kings did a few songs with 3 different singers, Paolo Nutini did a couple with them.  Then Foreigner ended with "I Want To Know What Love Is".  As much as its a great 80s Power Ballad and they performed well no one was singing it when the singer wanted us too.....  Felt embarrased for them.

What everyone wanted was Zep, and we got it, lots of it.

No order, the tracks were -

Good Time Bad Times
Stairway To Heaven
For Your Life
Nobodys Fault But Mine
In My Time of Dying
Ramble On
Black Dog
Rock n Roll
No Quarter
Whole Lotta Love
Dazed & Confused
Trampled Underfoot
Kashmir
Since Ive Been Loving You
The Song Remains The Same
Misty Mountain Hop

Generally all the songs were done very well.  Trampled Underfoot didnt sound very good though.  There wasnt great amounts of improvised lead guitar like youd expect from Zep 30 years ago.  All the songs were done more faithful to the studio recordings.  Jimmy was dribbling a lot, yep, I was that close!  He had a huge dog like shoe lace on his chin at one point.  The Whole Lotta Love middle noise part didnt go very well.

But, it was still bloody amazing and I loved every minute of it.  Really hope they do start a tour, Id go again, it was one of those absolutely amazing days you never want to end.

Was doing celeb spotting also, saw Bryan May, Marilyn Manson, Jeff Beck(Got some crappy photos), Vic Reeves and had Steve Winwood sit opposite me on the underground home.  Other celebs spotted were Kate Moss, Dave Grohl, Pearl Jam(Supposed in the standing area!!!).  I know loads of others were supposed to be attending ,but never saw them.  I was really hoping Id see Jeremy Clarkson.

In a word. YES!

Cypher

I wouldnt be suprised if it sparked some sort of tour, at the very least a festival date.  A lot of one of gigs allways lead to something else.

Its usually either the money or the thrill of touring that gets a retired band going again.  I caught a few clips this morning on the news and tbh I was impressed, they seem to still have it.

As much of a ledgend as they are, I was never going to make an effort for tickets that were going to be very overpriced for a band that are past their prime by some years. I just hope they decide to call it quits and leave the buisness with some grace when the time is right, unlike for example the Rolling Stones.

How was the 02 arena anyway out of interest?

O2 Arena was great, plenty of places to get food and drink.  Inside the main venue was amazing, very modern.  Only gripe was there should be more toilets.
