I am trying to install my USB hard disk on my home network, but Im not sure it can be done...

I have seen these boyos http://www.topsellings.com/en/usb-a-female-to-ethernet-rj45-male-adapter-connector-p9847.html?language=en¤cy=GBP but dont know if I could assign a static IP to it in order to access the drive.  The usb hd has it own power supply so there is no issue there.

Just wondering had anyone used these we yokes before and if so are they relaible??

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Are you wanting to access the hard disk on only 1 pc on the network, or do you want it accessible by multiple machines? If its the forst, you can get a Belkin usb to ethernet hub thing http://www.belkin.com/uk/networkusbhub/. Ive used them and they work quite well. If its the second scenario, then youll either need a more expensive server box thing, or remove the hard drive from the caddy and put it in a network hard disk caddy.

Im basically trying to use it as a NAS.  I think removing it from the caddy and sticking it into a NAS caddy is gonna be the best bet

Got an old pc?

Use freeNAS, and you can setup iSCSI, or use it as vanilla storage
