hiya

my brother has 2 laptops (dont ask, hes a NOOB!)

he has a good fairly new one he hardly ever uses (tbh I think he just uses it for porn when hes staying out overnight with work) and an older one he never uses

its a pacard bell "easy one" with a K6-2-500 and 192meg of ram (win98)

but hes fogotern his bios/boot password, anyone have any idea on how to reset the bios / where to look for info on it before I start taking it appart and poking around ?

thanks

Alan.

last time i touched a PB Laptop the BIOS battery was located underneath a little panel.  Same place as the RAM Fitted in.  Then i bleached my hands in case crap quality computing was contagious ;)

just checked and there are only 2 pannels, 1 for the ram 1 for the modem, no battery to be seen :(

p.s. it looks like hes already had a go himself, theres no screws left holding this together.... and i still cant get it appart !

Lift the keyboard up - if youre very lucky its under there.

Some of them had an actual PW reset switch up under the top cover (The bit above the keyboard, but beneath the screen) and some I have even had to remove the bios battery and short pins on the board or BIOS daughterboard (where fitted) to reset.

It really is a total labyrinth with laptops looking for the PW reset - if there even is one, as is not the case with many modern units.
