My shuttle is getting a bit old and ropey so im looking around to buy/build a new box with some more powaaa, and a new screen to go with it.

Looking for

24" screen, good high res

quad core (amd or intel)
6-8Gb DDR3
Dont care on the gfx card so long as its quick and can run the screen
fast SATA2 drive, size doesnt matter as im running a 1gbps link to a 2Tb NAS
64bit OS to run it all
not really looking to game tbh, do have a steam account and a few games like half life and l4d but hardly play, more looking for some grunt to run the adobe photo apps a bit quicker and generally run fast.

So far i have come up with:

24" screen - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/199631 - £157

Case - http://www.tekheads.co.uk/product/TekValue-1014-Micro-ATX-Tower-Case-Piano-Black-Fronted-with-500W-Power-Supply_35913.html - £27
Board - http://www.tekheads.co.uk/product/Gigabyte-GA-MA770T-UD3-Socket-AM3-DDR3-ATX-Motherboard_25781.html - £55
CPU - http://www.tekheads.co.uk/product/AMD-Athlon-II-X4-Quad-Core-640-30Ghz-2mb-95W-Socket-AM3-Processor-Retail_34222.html - £77
RAM - 2x http://www.tekheads.co.uk/product/Patriot-4GB-DDR3-2-x-2048MB-PGS34G1600ELKA-PC3-12800-1600MHz-Dual-Channel-Kit_33171.html - £55 each
GFX - http://www.tekheads.co.uk/product/Asus-ATi-Radeon-HD4350-Silent-1GB-GDDR2-DVIHDMI-PCI-E-Graphics-Card-Retail_25698.html - £39
OS - http://www.tekheads.co.uk/product/Microsoft-Windows-7-Professional-64Bit-DVD-OEM_20665.html - £105
HDD- http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173804 - £41

So its looking like £611 already, can i go cheaper anywhere? i dont mind where the kit comes from.

Would a pre built dell or HP be a cheaper way to go?

Shaun

If you're going the full hog work a decent sized SSD into your budget, the performance difference over a  SATA drive is like night and day.

If you're not going to OC stick with AMD, if you are Intel are the better option IMO, I would swap the Ram you have listed it is Cas 9 you would be better getting some 1333 that runs at Cas 7 with tighter timings: http://www.dabs.com/products/kingston-hyperx-4gb--2-x-2gb--ddr3-1333mhz---pc3-10600-non-ecc-cl7-dimm-xmp--khx1333c7d3k2-4gx--731S.html?refs=4294951079-418680000-4294953665-4294953914

Props for not blowing £100 on a PSU  :ptu:, thats a nicely specced box.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Ill check out SSD and alt mem, i never usually have issues with power so dont see the point in blowing loads on a PSU

Wont be overclocking, well out of that game.

iRush Pro + Monitor of choice
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pc/range/irushpro.html

Processor:    Intel Core i5 760 CPU
Memory:    4GB DDR3 1333Mhz
Harddrive:    1TB 3.5" 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
Case:    Novatech ATX Gaming Case
Optical Drives:    22x DVD Writer
Graphics:    ATI Radeon 5770 1024MB GDDR5 Graphics
Power Supply:    750w ATX Power Supply
Motherboard:    Intel H55 Chipset Motherboard

Dx 11 graphics on par with 4850, latest Intel i5 1156 setup.

Dont see the point in spending £600 on a system above and buying a Dx 10.1 4350 for £40 when you can get a 4850 for the same price which will piss all over it.

Thats not a bad rig, and the 770 series boards from Gigabyte should pick up the new Bulldozer cores if you want a future upgrade without swapping sockets.  Unlike Intel who swap their sockets every few years to force upgrades.  AMD learned that lesson already!

I checked that rig out and would have cost a shed load more once i bolted on the screen and windows OS so decided to go with my own build

Binary Shadow

Wow... not so sure the cheapest case i could find was the way to go, its a wobbling mass of rivets and razor sharp edges.. still.. its not about how it looks..
