Just checking for confirmation, does a MAC read NTFS drives in a USB Caddy?  Im fairly sure it does, but can a MAC user please correct me if im wrong?

Im 95% sure its read only with writing possible at your peril. Just like every other *nix.

From what I understand, max is correct; you can only read NTFS.  For better compatibility you could format to FAT32 to allow write access, although if you have larger files than 4GB you will have a problem!?!

Actually reading and writing NTFS in linux is a lot better than it used to be.

Using ubuntu with the ntfs-3g package it appears to work quite well (although things like protected an ntfs-compressed files are still a problem).

This has now been ported to Mac OSX too (MacFuse).
Ive been using it with various Linux distros without any issues, although I havent tried writing to compressed/encrypted files & folders.

Edit: Instructions for compiling ntfs-3g on Macs.

I suggested that, but we need to move a 130Gb+ file from one location to another.
