Well all i can say is wow!
Noticed it was no longer beta so thought i would have a see what it was like.
This is possibly the best wmp there has been, it seems faster, sleeker, more stylish.
it handles albums well, it can handle some of the more obscure formats (mkv)
i am not normally one for praising ms software but this is such a massive improvement over wmp 10
Ive been playing with it at work (since thats where the bulk of my mp3 collection is) and i really like it.
Its seem a bit iffy sometimes when loading album information for the 1st time but leave it alone for a minute and it figures itself out... i think im still on the beta version tho
I like the little touches, the niceities... the resizing album cover image on the now playing window, the swooshyness of the menus :) Good stuff.
Also should point out, it looks great if you are using the windows zune theme as mentioned in a post recently
the sleek black look does appeal to me
also love images sorted by date
But doesnt it use more than 1k of memory than winamp? I notice the many people who defended winamp back when I used to argue with them on irc have now switched over to wmp.

quite a while ago wmp was bloaty and slow, winamp was fast
now winamp is basically dead, needs modernising majorly and wmp has been revamped massively
i dont give a damn about memory usage, tis about how useful the program is to me
Phoenix Flame used to berate me all the time for using WMP because WMP dared to use half a byte more memory. Really bothered on a 2gig system.

Yeah... I remember those days :D lol.
Preferred winamp myself back in the day, and still have an old old version of it installed on my laptop.
Once you get used to the hoaryness of WMP (it scanning your drive for files to add to your library, and adding any music you play even if its just a one off) its quite a nicely setup affair :)
*shrug* i like Winamp, i even use the Classic theme because I loath skins. I like things functional and not fussy.
Foobar is the daddy for music once its set up. Id use WMP for videos but I never understand why people like it so much, its still bloated and makes me feel like I need to upgrade my machine just to play music. Its too full of worthless features and intrusive behaviour for my liking.

have you tried 11?
with 10 and less i would agree, they seem to have removed alot and made it faster and more compact
Ill probaby switch to it as and when. Maybe when I install Vista...
I like foobar2000 it works just fine have not tried wmp 11 though and will probably not until my daughter wants it :)
My foobar

That program looks nasty if you had a large collection... all those tabs!!!

That is just what I listen to currently :) otherwise I just go to library and doubleclick, one just really need one or two tabs.
foobar is simple when getting used to it.
foobar use 12744 kb, how much does wmp 11 use ?
about 30MB with the library visable, just under 8MB in mini mode. But on a system with 4GB RAM, who really gives a rats arse? :P
My Foobar using around 10,000 kb. Its also set up to bypass Windows kmixer and can be configured for 5.1 audio easily.

nothing will replace winamp for me unless it has global hotkey support.
I still use Winamp. Does exactly what it says on the tin.

Foobar2000 has global hotkey support 8)
mmmmm does it look as pretty as winamp?
Clockeds config looks good :)
Winamp getting dated ;)
but it comes with so much when you stoled it :D

It didnt take me too long to configure, its all straightforward after five minutes on their wiki, I love it now. :)
Im a foobar user myself, Im not a skin fan, just like plain simple GUIs. Foobar is very functional in that it just plays my music, but it has power that WMP doesnt and thats what I like :)
I also do like it how Foobar only uses about 4mb on my system, while WMP11 uses over 20mb. Should I be bothered with 2GB? Maybe not.
Still, I use WMP for ripping CDs to Lossless WMA :)

What does Foobar do that WMP doesnt? Seems to me that WMP offers more than foobar as you resort to ripping cds with it.
If ripping I use a properly configured EAC and flac.exe
Doesnt WMP connect to the net to check stuff ? so it takes time to start.

I use Foobar for whatever to MP4 conversion. I use WMP for ripping as its easier.

Foobar can do all that too. It can also on the fly transcode between formats if you so wish, it has a dedicated HDD streamer.
You can also add any number of plugins to it that you like to increase functionality. By comparision, WMP is a bit balls IMO :)
MPC (http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/)FTW!

Each to their own. All I use media players for (iTunes, Winamp, WMP, whatever) is to play media with. Everything else is frippery. WMP does that (imo) very well with a nice interface and an excellent library feature.
Aye, its never worth a war over. I still use WMP in conjunction with Real and Quciktime for video just because its easiest and does the job.
winamp for audio
wmp for video.
thats how itll stay till something with excellent library and configuration faff which winamp seems to have :)
