Title: Migrating Server...
Post by: Rivkid on April 10, 2008, 14:13:44 PM
Ive go o migrate a file server from one domain to another. Problem is the file structure is huge and complicated and I have to retain the permissions on the new domain. Is there an easy way to replicate the permissions or is it pen and paper time?

which wont work if its one domain to another. you might be able to do something around this with ADMT

or you could use robocopy, add a trust and slowly update the share areas with the new domain groups.

Are you creating an entirely new domain with identical usernames

Or are you upgrading a domain from mixed mode to native mode

If its different domains it will get messy, but nothing that cannot be sorted out with a trust and an eval copy of doubletake or replistore

Weve actually got 2 seperate domains (brilliantly with different naming conventions just to add to the fun...) but we need to move a fileserver from the old domain to the new one. Personally I dont see how were going to do it without the AD names matching up. Nightmare...
