Id just like to welcome the iPhone users to the 20th century of mobile phone use.

There isnt anything in that list that my previous 5 phones have had.

LOL.  Oh the majority of the features are really a bit late, If anything its the accesories and the peer to peer that is nice to see.

But Im really not annoyed for one simple reason, your not buying a new phone everytime they make an improvement, because you effectively have Mac OSX in your hand.

Its easy to lose perspective this is their first phone and have been progressing the platform in a steady and sensible manor.

They did not really want to do a lot of them, or feel they needed to. Current phones doing it and people moaning Apple sort of have ignored because they feel they do not really compete with the type of phone this is. (U them selves as Apple is) BUT...
With all the new smartphones coming out this year from not just established phone makers and all with these features and what the iphone does and even more they have some stiff competition and they are having to do all this to keep people.
All the new API stuff, many of which they once said they would not do they are doing because of phones like the palm pre making apps easier to make and more open to the core elements of the phones OS to be able to integrate.

Ive just watched the Event video, really its the push notifications, the apis and the accesory intergration that are really impressive.  Well more so the apps that are being developed from the new SDK.

http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/0903lajkszg/event/index.html

Example a Heart Monitor that plugs into the 30pin connector, this also works with bluetooth and wifi with standard protocols or custom protocols, which I guess means A2DP is finally here!  Hardware vendors, FM transmitors, Stereo docks can develop their own app to work with the hardware.

The push notifictation is the answer/alternative to running backround processes, all third party servers would submit their notification/update through apple, which makes sense with apps such as ESPN doing over 50K updates a month.

It;s a pleasant update.

A2DP is there.

Another interesting is that version 2 ipods have bluetooth but they are off through software and will be enabled for the game and sharing stuff in 3.0.

In all honesty I wish Nokia would pull its little finger out of its arse and fix the 5800. Least apple do regular software updates and fix bugs faster, Nokia are just taking the piss latelly.
