Ive got a dell inspiron 6100 with a broken screen

theres some sort of short after about 2 seconds of powering on and it shuts off...

I traced it back to the screen and stripped it down...

but now Im a bit stuck, if i try to power it on I can see the flash of the short, its about 1cm away from where the invertor plugs into it...

I dont want to strip the screen down any further than I have to....

any anyone tell me whats wrong just from that ?
(it[s not a short on the connection)

do I need a new screen ?  (I assume I do)

How was it damaged?  Was it dropped?

A missing screen would not stop a Dell laptop from booting.

Serious

Its a short, most likely something is lying across the power tracks. When the power comes on the spark joins power to where it isnt supposed to go and the protection system automatically shuts it down again. Needs anything at the spark area that might act as a short cleaned off, it might be metal or carbon. Check its cured, then put some insulation tape on to hopefully prevent any relapse.

If you need a new screen I know a company who can get just the screens. Brand new. let me know.

I hope you charged him! That really annoys me.

We had a request in for 3 hrs work in Bahrain for a Dell system to go and install the OS. or just actually inspect and try and fix the computer. The computer has a 3 yr warranty with Dell that the company paid for. They were going to be charged thousand quid or something ridiculious!
