apparently

anyone care to shed any light on this problem?

Porch Monkey

Well, do you have anything in your host file? (Its a file which used to be used for name resolution in the olden days but takes precedence over DNS etc)

Theres been quite a few "install this host file and it stops pop ups etc" floating around for a while.

It should be in

windows\system32\drivers\etc

redneck

nope ive done absolutly nothing to it.

thoughts?

*edit*

ive found it and i dont know what to do with it

PuNk

if you have any anti-block up stuff or anti-advert stuff it might of edited it for you, open the file simply called hosts (not hosts.msn) in notepad, and the only address you NEED in there is localhost 127.0.0.1

redneck

will do.

*edit*

so i just delete all this bullsh*t?
i know its prolly porn spyware

redneck

tried it, doesnt work for some reason.

i may go to trillian lol

redneck

FIXED!!!

it was a date/time problem where my computer was set to 2007.

how strange!

Serious

Most of them are advertising sites so you can remove them anyway if you want.

PuNk

unless youve had other problems, you can leave all the hosts file stuff in, itll block some adverts!

Its stupid how msn needs teh correct time to log in, it fools me every single time i format (i have to cmos reset a worrying number of times so my cmos clock is always wrong).

shofty

Ive never seen a hosts.msn file before... DNS wont use that. is it peculiar to a certain version of msn?

Matt

bear

The ones with 127.0.0.1 is ok but the others u can delete.
