Have asked people and never found out what it was, bugging me again recently.

Was as a kid and I know mum recorded it on tape and I used to like it.

The bits I can remember:

Big huge guy was the main character, the film set in future or at least hi tech. For what ever reason his ship which kind of looked like a sleek scarab crashes in a lake. He manages to get to shore.
The guy had a beard and was super strong, possible actually an android. His costume was black leather style and he had like a leather all over cap.

He came across an old guy, Kind of like the old grey haired guy from airwolf but not him, and when the main guy came across him his "car" was like a land speeder from star wars.

Not much to go on there. I saw it probably 20-25 years ago and it was oldish even then. I just think of it now and again and it bothers me not knowing what it is.

Can you remember anything about the premise of the film? Pretty sure I've seen at least maybe 3 films from that era which involve spaceships crashing on a planet... One involved a guy off to rescue some people that crash landed on a planet, in the process teaming up with that girl from Breakfast Club (annoying brat)

Also know they did a "treasure island in space" which is sort of in that vein, but obviously had more than one main character...

yup & its recently been on TCM or MGM on Sky... Showing my age now.. but I watched that in the cinema when it first came out.

& what was the film about? did they have to rescue someone or kills someone or run from someone or did they just  cruise around in their landspeeder

Really hard to remember to be fair and why it will be hard.

He was a loner that got caught up in saving the planet/city people from the evil dictator style which was an evil women if I recall. They guy was a real big guy gingerish beard.
It kills me as I want to be able to offer mofe information too.

Biggest memory is of his ship crashing into the lake and him opening the hatch at the top and coming ashore and how he looked. I think some creature or robot become his friend at some point as well or he had one on the ship but could not go with him over the water (I think the latter rings more of a bell)

Maybe you are thinking about more than one film?

I did the same thing a few years back when I was trying to remember a film. I kept remembering scenes involving a deadly disease on board a passenger Jet, the worlds population dieing from said disease and evil/the devil rising as a result. It turned out that I was thinking of Stephen Kings "The Stand" and a TV movie called "Doomsday Virus", starring Richard Dean Anderson. Yet I was sure they were one and the same.

Yeah, that can happen. Not in this case. Defiantly the same movie. It is one of those ones that it is in there but on the grasp of popping into your brain properly.

I liked the boxing one where they Human entered the thing and all the other boxers were aliens. Forgot what that was called for a along time but now know. (Arena)

Another one was a movie about time travel.

A plane crash investigator is investigating another plane crash and it has some strangeness to it. He comes across this hot women and basically finds out she is from the future. She and others just before disasters like a plane crash come in, take the passengers away and replace them with fakes. They need them to help save the future which is having issues or something.
He of course falls in love with her etc.

Anyone know that one?

no idea what it's called tho :-

they come back in time from the future and take the people away just before they die - they're in a kind of zombie state when they're taken away... iirc they go to take people from a plane they think exploded.... but then it turns out there was someone on the plane with a gun and thats why it crashed... i think one of the future people gets shot ?  anyway.... the "hot" future woman has to come back in time and cover it up so no-one knows they nicked everyone and replaced them with copies
