Title: NAS Issues
Post by: Binary Shadow on June 14, 2007, 21:02:24 PM
Been having problems with my new NAS.

Its a cheap £30 enclosure from ebuyer with a seagate 320gb disc

Setup fine, mapped drives fine.

Been merrily copying stuff to it over the LAN for 2 days (not solid).

Just thrown a folder full of images and suddenly something has become selective about what to copy.

over half the files didnt stick lol

reset the NAS and still having the problem, they copy over ok over the USB but i dont want to have to use that all the time..

Any ideas? just seems to be JPGs at the moment.

Must be that new inbuilt "Goatse Recognition Programming" on some new drives firmware.

Not sure what Id check, short of formatting the drive and trying again. I assume all other formats copy over fine.

Cheers

could it be long file names etc... ?

Id try loading the pictures up, re-saving them with a different name... and see if that works...

and maybe a different format.....

if its just those 3 files then its a problem with them not the nas :o

Ive had some experiance with what we dub, hells toaster.  Netgear Storage central.  The software is diabolical.  I end up having to reactivate the disk almost daily.

It was even more unreliable before I formatted it to NTFS through disk management while it was using its own "NFS" disk formatting system.

In that case the solution came up with was one of netgears own forum techies.

edit: well its compressed a bit differently as the file size is a touch larger.. cant see why its copying and the other isnt tho :(

take full ownership of the files, then try copying them again.

This usually happens if the files have gone through a conversion from FAT32 to NTFS.

yeah the drive is FAT32 and the PC is of course NTFS

i just used CMD to copy them and could see the file appear then vanish 1 at a time.. mad lol
