Got to work today and screen was dead. Device still working (making sounds when getting e-mails) but hard-reboots not even showing boot screen.

On the way home caught the screen in the sun and noticed I could see thing and touchscreen was working so looks like its the backlight... Think Thursday or Friday I'm going to attempt to take it apart and play with cables (stupid ribbon cables, hate the bastards) plus being a tablet the thing looks like a bitch to get open... I never have the patience for these things so end up breaking stuff... lets see what happens!

Photos to come I guess :P

Sad time for me though as the thing has been around the world with me and has been sooo damn useful, first device I've had that couple replace a laptop for everything I needed while traveling... Plus with me planning to go to Canada next month I need a device to take with me but don't have spare cash to spend out on something (like the Nexus 7)

I do find it amazing how often products break *just* after their warranties expire...

Well decided to take a look this lunch time.

Bezel was 2 small torx screws and then a load of plastic clips which you just had a 'force' and hope you didn't break too many of them (1 for me)
Backplate was 10 tiny screws.

Wiggled the ribbon cable (no removing and reseating due to no clip on the connector, just tape) - Flipped it over and TA DA! Fully working!

Very happy chappy. Just goes to show when there isn't much to lose just try and fix it ;)

Yep, but chances are they would have fixed it free anyway. The UK legal system doesn't like it when things go just out of warranty and then fail, it looks too much like it has been planned.

You did well there, I wouldn't have known what to do with it other than fiddling about either. ;D

I just had to pay £70 to have my upscaling DVD player repaired, there was no chance of me doing that as it needed a new PSU and circuit board.

I was thinking that and prob would of given it a go if my fiddling didn't work. Still working now but I'm guessing it will just come loose again, least it only takes 10min and is easy enough now I know how to get the bezel off :)

nice one. I recently repaired my parents Sony Bravia 32" lcd tv doing much the same thing.

Googled replacement boards, opened it up replaced a board for <£20 (£60 for all 4 boards in tv online). Now have 32" Bravia tv in my living room, instead of sh*tty 19" no name crap.

TV repair guy offered to take it off the parents for free as "it's completely unrepairable, but I might be able to salvage the panel for parts so won't charge a disposal fee". Cheeky bastard.
