ive shared a few folders and even the whole drive, whats going on !!??

its driving me up the wall and i need to get it sorted in basically less than an hour if possible

new pc is vista, old one is xp

PuNk

knighty

i was gonna burn dvds but this was supposed to be the way around it, ive 20Gb alone in my documents which is basically crap, then ive got all my other files and my brothers, and my dads aswell

workgroups are the same, i named both WORKGROUP

how would i go about doing that mate with the protocol ?

my computer skills went downhill a few years ago, im still very competent but i think ive left my geek status behind, bit crap really, a few years ago id have had this licked

Cypher

Are you using Simple file sharing or permissions?

You wont be able to see the other computer unless it has a shared folder of some sorts either.

Vista uses something called the networking centre, you will need to enable file sharing.

knighty

dont know about vista... but in xp its...

control panel
my network places
right click on the connection in question
properties
install
protocol
add
then the ipx.spx one

and like cyper said.,... make sure you have a shared folder on the vista one !  (in xp you can just right lcick on any folder then do sharing and security)

White Giant

Use the network wizard if you havent already. Yes I know wizards are lame, but its suprising how often they work.

Porch Monkey

AFAIK you cant get IPX/SPX on Vista, and since Novell went IP native with Internetware its unlikely itll be back.

With Vista to XP Id go with WG, wizards are lame but in Windows they do tend to "magically" switch on the features you need.

BigSoy

Personally Ive pretty much given up on Windows file sharing these days, and when I need to do this sort of thing, Ill just an FTP server on one of the machines and move the stuff about that way.
