Title: New graphics card
Post by: Clock'd 0Ne on April 17, 2008, 16:36:35 PM
Can someone reccomend or offer me a cheap AGP card that will run 1920 x 1200 via DVI, my 9000 Pro doesnt seem to want to cope with my new Dell Screen at anything above 1600 x 1200 :(

Thanks.

Exactly the one I was looking at actually. :)

I wondered if anyone had any other suggestions. I guess that card has got HDMI though so it would make sense to use it.

Not bad cards, and i think they are the beefiest AGP card you can get.  I used to have one of those 9000 Pros myself at one point.  Good little card in its day.

btw, ill explain why I said get the most powerful of the lot.  If you want to watch a HD movie, and let the card do the decoding, your CPU will need to be pretty slick to decode it.  Im assuming that with a 900Pro you arent running on exactly the latest tech.

To be fair, if all you want to do is watch a few movies, and browse around you might be better off spending £100 on a new CPU, RAM and board with decent(ish) onboard GFX.

Cheers Beaker, I only want this to be a stopgap though until I upgrade the rest of the rig and go PCI-E. Basically I want to be able to run the TFT at native res, instead of 1600x1200 1:1 pixel mapped.

I cant afford £100 card after spending £420 odd on the monitor :drama:

After talking with Kris and looking at the datasheets Ive plumped for this one instead now, I cant be certain the low end card will work reliably at that res.

Cheers guys :)

I was going to suggest something like this one, but not much different from what you went for.

Main advantage of these cards is they tend to have HD decoding built in

New card works a treat, 1920x1200 straight up. Thanks to Kris and the Tekheads lads for the card and the little extras they chucked in for me too bless them.

My expected standard of quality packing too, cant go wrong :w00t:  :ptu:
