Title: New hard drive, copying C: to C:?
Post by: Quixoticish on September 06, 2006, 13:06:21 PM
Ive just picked up a new 160GB hard drive to replace my rather knackered 20GB WD. Im wandering if theres an easy way to copy the contents of my C: (boot/windows) drive to the new drive, remove the old drive and simply replace it with the new one? The reason I ask is Im a bit wary with regards to boot records and things like that, anyone have any ways of accomplishing this without formatting and re-installing?

Acronis TrueImage or Norton Ghost.

Sorted.

As CO says; Ive used Ghost a lot for this and its really very clever, even if the two discs are quite different.

Ive decied to use the 160GB for games and mp3s and things as my secondary drive to replace my 80. Thats all sorted with simple windows copying and the 80 is being formatted now. Im just downloading my shiny new copy of Norton Ghost, once its done my 20gig C: is going onto the 80gig. Then the 20gig can be kept in case something mysteriously blows up over the next few weeks.
