Title: Nintendo to pitch Wii at under $250
Post by: soopahfly on May 25, 2006, 13:47:10 PM
QuoteNintendo has revealed its next-generation console, the Wii, will retail in the US for $250 or less, and no more than Ã,Â¥25,000 ($220/Ã,£119/?174) in Japan. It also expects to have shipped more than 6m of the machines by March 2007, the company said today.

Thats as many machines as the total number of PlayStation 3 consoles Sony is expecting to ship in the same period. Sonys box is more than twice the price of the Wii. Both Sony and Microsoft have suggested consumers will buy a Wii alongside each companys more advanced console because the Nintendo machine is relatively so cheap.

Sweet, Just over Ã,£100!

Makes the DS seem expensive!

I know for a fact at that price Ill be getting one, and itll be my first console purchase since the SNES. If Nintendo keep marketing the way they are and keep the prices low I can see them attracting a lot of sales.

When the next gen was first anounced and info came out i thought Nintendo were in trouble.

360 was all looking good from start to finish.

Nintendo lost out on hardware and you all know how i have felt about how nintendo have been and still are really caught in their ways on the old kiddie front.

Sony looked strong but are going down hill for me. Ripping off the other guys on their controler in such a blatent way, Ripping off xbox live in an obvious way, ripping off the 360 interface in a big way, Hardware issues, lack of games and play time and cost is just shocking for them.
They should not have the issues they do with the hardware and they should not be ripping of people, they are sony for heavens sake.
The console will be cool, of course it will but I dont think it will be doing well as well as Sony think it will.

360 will be strong and sell well and has been out a while which helps but come November time when the PS3 and Nintendo Wii Comes out i Honestly now have the change of opinion that the Wii Will WTF Own The PS3. The way you play, the games, the price just looks really cool, i am tempted to buy one and i cant use my right and to well, but i think i coulsd still play alot of games and My parents would play it.
Sony have disapointed may on so many levels.

Fan boys aside Xmas time it will boil down to bang for buck, Parents for example will be more willing to get a Wii due to the sheer cost of the PS3.
Anyone out there who does not really have the cash will be drawn to the way you play the Wii and such a price you cant say no.

I dont know, I thought Nintendo would die with this console but i Think they will be alive and kicking now.
MS have learnt a lot and offered a good console.
The PS3 will be good but i just dont know i dont think it will do well for a long while untill the time for the price to drop a lot occurs.

I dont know what the score will be, i cant say it will go:

1. 360
2. Wii
3. PS3

But i think we can all agree that it wont be:

1. PS3
....
..
.
.
2. 360
.........
....
...
..
.
.
.
3 Wii

I think it will be very much an open market with Wii and 360 just ahead.

Guys, it will be cheap, but it wont be that cheap:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/5016838.stm
But i bet it will be Ã,£149.99
Still cheap, but not as cheap as it should be, but hey, long With rip off Britain

I was excepting it to rise in price once it managed to get here... and Ã,£150 looks about right. Still can by 3 of them for the price of a PS3

And you can see more people playing and having a laugh with a wii console when you have a bash over a ps3.

One thing concerns me though:

I would be worried playing tennis with any of you lot, you just may get bashed around the head with a wii controler as Dooms tries and do a cross court smash.

Id say Ã,£180 launch price too, wasnt that the price that both the N64 and Gamecube launched at? (If Im not mistaken).

Still great value, Ive heard that Wii Sports and Opera (the browser) are going to be bundled in at that price. :)

Resident Evil 4? Metroid Prime 1/2? Eternal Darkness? Kiddie?

Edit: Pah, I guess youre right, since Ubisoft announced Red Steel wont feature any blood. :yarr:

The minimum is going to be Ã,£159 simply cause you have to add VAT so Ã,£170 seems realistic for the UK robbery standard.

I feel confident saying that 90% of Nintendo games would fall under the kiddie field :)

They are, alaways will be, but Wii is tempting me, first time since my Nes.

It doesnt matter if they are kiddie games or not.  Your perception of Nintendo games may be kiddie games but I honestly think they games that break the mould that is the aggresive western market of fast cars and big guns.  They are intellegant and entertaining games that deliver hours of fun.

In short, nintendo games are those that are guarateed to put a smile on your face.  That is what they are.  At E3 people walked out of the booth with a smile on their face, laughing about how the fun the games were, that is something no amount of marketing can buy you.

Stragely both Sony and Microsoft are talking about how their system is the better one to go with the Wii. Both say that the Wii will be the best second console.

No I dont have an avatar atm.  Never got round to putting one up.

What really matters in a game isnt the graphics or if its aimed at adults or not, what matters is gameplay and the experience, everything else is packaging.

The cube released at around Ã,£130-Ã,£140. There were some ructions going on around the time about it being Ã,£180 at release. When it actually went on sale it was definitely no more than Ã,£140.

I agree that its all about the gameplay. I own a PS2 and GC but when it comes to having m8s over, its GC everytime. Nothing beats Mario Party, Monkey Ball or Mario Kart with 4 players. Its THE party game console. The games maybe kiddy, but theres a big kid inside me!

lol i was discussing this with flatmate last night... it is going ot be very dangerous, esp after a few drinks. Couple years ago when the EyeToy first came out we took that to a house party, that ended in lots of bruises and pains.

QuoteGAMES console maker Nintendo has told a Japanese magazine that its Wii console will hit the streets in the land of the Rising Sun for 25,000 yen (Ã,£119).

According to www.videogamesblogger.com, if you compare that price with what Nintendo did to the DS Lite prices, and divide the figure by your shoe size, that will mean that the Wii will probably end up at about Ã,£150 in Blighty.

If you add in a second controller and a game it will probably end up at about Ã,£160. Either way, it will be as cheap as chips in comparison to Voles XBox 360 and you could buy two for the cost of a single PS3.

A Nintendo rep has said they are pushing for an October release and said a number (cant remember) of consoles they are shipping. All i can remember is that its more then the first bathc pf PS3s
