Oh well!

Well I worked out why my work machine got screwed.  I didnt bother reading the read-me before installing the patch.  Guess how much space the SP required to install.

32bit, 7GB, 64 bit a whopping 16GB.

I only had about 3-4 gig spare.  I wondered why it just "froze". :mutley:

I h8 rolling out SPs blind, so 3 weeks is usually long enough for everyone to have ranted about the bugs and problems so that I know what to expect :)

People moan about Vista saying theyll wait for the SP1 then moan about SP1 saying theyll wait for SP1.1 ?
Vista works fine, been running it since May.

Not transfered files about then for example sam?
lol
And how can you create a service pack to solve problems and then add more like for example killing what is the list? 20 odd programs from functioning any more.

Sam

No Ive never transferred a file. Ive never even booted up the computer actually.

out of curiousity i applied the SP to the Vista boot on my desktop machine.

Sound has gone byebye. Turns out I need to roll up to the latest drivers.    not a huge problem, except after installing them Ive got exactly the same problem that resulted in me using older versions.  The Audio "pops" constantly, and cuts out for a second or two at random.  Works fine under XP64, and was working fine with the older driver i was using under Vista.

Im annoyed.

I agreee

And if theyd disable the differential file crap there is hardly any difference in the file xfer speed anyway

Like - transferring gigs of data isnt something youd normally do 15 times a day in the first instance

But im using a board and chipset that came out after Vista was released (AMD 770 Series), with Realtek Audio.  I dont mind if the issue is with the drivers, provided I can roll them back to a working version, or there is already a working version available.  As it is i cant listen to Audio tracks of any kind while im using my Vista boot, BECAUSE of the service pack and drivers.  The XP64 boot (Which is notorious for having poor driver support) works flawlessly with the hardware, even using the latest drivers.  This would indicate that between Realtek and MS there either isnt much testing going on.

When I worked in my last job we rolled out 700 new XP desktops just after XP came out

SP1 was rolled out to 120 of them as a test (HAD to be done, as MS were a customer) - apps stopped working, an external card reader needed for the agents apps no longer worked, and the large kodak scanners that the countryside agency used no longer worked.

Same situation. Different OS

yeah, its the reason why i stuck with 98 and NT4 until 2kSP2 came out, and why I point blank refused to put XP on as my main OS I used until SP2 turned up as well (Installed it within a week of release, and it was terrible).  However at that point I didnt have any problems at all with anything that would be called "Modern" hardware.  The oddball NIC i was using on the NT4 box stopped working on 2kSP2, but that wasnt an issue due to the number of spares I had.  i just swapped it out.  When I rolled up to XP I had no conflicts at all.  I suppose my gripe with VistaSP1 is that the Realtek stuff is slightly more common than an scouse bird, and there is a know issue with audio corruption and newer Vista drivers.  Also, ive never tried to roll up a new OS on basic hardware either, my rule of thumb is to double recommended specs at a minimum.
