It's all fun and games until a 200' robot dinosaur shows up and trashes Neo-Tokyo... Again.

Grrr it angers me everytime. Why do companies think its ok to release unfinished goods these days? Tesco wouldnt get away with selling a half dead cow! Soooo many people have had to send them back.

Thats pritty damned nuts. I dont understand why that would help. Im guessing Microsoft are getting a lot of RMAs.

its soo bad atm that I have heard many people on Live! advising people to RMA their 360 before the warranty runs out *just in case* :o

Actually most people have found that the reason for the red ring of death is that there is a problem with the solder joints that attach one of the chips to the board. Why this towel trick might work is because your heating up the console which will cause the metal to expand and produce enough contact for it to run. I have read about several people actually fixing the problem for good using a heat gun or anything else that can reflow the solder. (The CPU/GPU use a ball grid array so you cant use a standard iron)

I know of at least 3 people who make quite a bit of extra cash through buying bricked 360s on ebay and heat guning them back to life :o

They can buy mine then, as mines done the same, cant say im going to be rushing to get a heat gun

if its out of warranty Id crack it open and give the whole thing a good going over with a hair dryer; you never know !

why not? Ive been considering buying a broken one and a heat gun for awhile. Ok it might not work but I can always sell it on ebay for what I paid for it.

Im not bothering with a heatgun, I dont want a temporary fix, and frankly im not too bothered about having to get a new one, it comes tomorrow and it gives me another years warranty to play with :)

Apparantly a hairdryer only serves as a few hours fix, if you heat gun it, it can retrack the solder or suchlike, I really CBA with doing that, despite having access to a heatgun ironically

Hell im surprising myself recently, or maybe that its just ive listed all the duplicate premium bundle bits on eBay already, and CBA to take them off
