/me listens to MCR

/me falls asleep.

If I want "theatre" Ill go to the greats that pull it off well...

Alice Cooper, Meat Loaf, Kiss, etc...

Its not that theyre emo... its that theyre crap. I actually prefer listening to the manufactured atrocity that is Panic at the Disco than this crap.

"have you heard the news that your dead?" ugh..

And poison... I should stab you in the face with a thousand sporks for putting The Used in the same catagory as MCR. The Used bloody rocks. I still listen to the taste of ink on repeat for hours. :D

redneck

the used is as emo as mcr.

a usefull guide

i used to listen to stuff like this, but my tastes did change a lot over the past few years. i only listen to stuff i find technically amasing, so opeth, tool etc... are up there.

Hah, nobodys even listened to this album, buts still dismissing it. Listen to it, then feel free to comment. Im old enough to be unshackled by coolness a long time ago, and cant stand teeny angsty bands, but I like a bit of fun and big guitars.

So, have any of you actually heard the record? Ive not heard anything other than this one, and I dont really care if they belonged to this that or the other or couldnt play, or had bad outfits and videos.

Red, what are ya? 15? In spirit? Youre still obsessing over whether this band is emo or not? Who cares? It sounds like a smart take on arena rock to me. Grow up.

lol im 22 on sunday. i just dont want to be lumped together with the rest.

ill give it a whirl, but i know what i likes!! last.fm does prevail!

Heres a short synopsis of my take on it:

Think prog-rock, rock opera, cheez metal, and 90s punk lite in a blender...

01. The End: Like Ziggy Stardust introducing a circus. Really.
02. Dead: Classic pop punk thrash lite. Could have been a Billie Joe Armstrong number. Not a bad thing.
03. This is how I disappear: Again thrash-lite, but with more Freddie, devolves a bit. A mood piece if you will.
04. The Sharpest Lives: Straight up rocker. More pop metal than thrash.
05. Welcome to the Black Parade: Piano with orchestration. Drums play a nice march. Quite a pretty little ballad. Eventually we get guitars straight off of "We are the Champions." Thats a good thing. Evolves into some basic good pop punk. Orchestration and theatrics near the end with the march returning. Well crafted.
06. I dont love you: Add a guitar delay, and its a U2 song. In a good way. :P The chorus sounds like pop radio circa 85. Contrived, but more like aspartame than saccharine.
07. House of Wolves: Classic 80s punk thrash intro, then turns into something from the first Motley Crue album. Vince Neil should cover it.
08. Cancer: (giggle) a straight up Queen Bohemian Rhapsody rip/homage, could have been a bridge in that song. Pink Floyd sounds like another influence--Im even hearing some Steely Dan type harmonies.
9. Momma: Starts off with Klezmer music in a nice 2/4 trot, then some screamy guitars and hair metaly power chords. Fiddler on the roof meets Cinderella with a touch of Pink Floyds The Wall. Quite spectacular.
10. Sleep: Nice wall of guitars! A slow rocker with a mid 90s Bob Mould guitar sound. Vocal is dropped down in the mix ala Mould as well.
11. Teenagers: A modern take on the FM arena anthem. Shake your fists, kids. :D Guitar solo reaches back to the sound of Chuck Berry.
12. Disenchanted: Acoustic guitar starts this one. Takes the anthemic vibe of "Teenagers" and slows it down as sort of coda to the previous song. A bit of Freddies spirit in this one, imagine Bryan Adams fronting Queen. Near the end it starts feeling like something from a Journey power ballad. Light your Bics. :D
13. Famous Last Words: 80s metal slow burner feel with a slight old school thrash here and there. Chorus is again a sing along type thing. Evolves into a fading power anthem.
14. Hidden track: Kurt Weil-Tiny Tim-Tom Waits tin-pan-alley type piano number. Fantastic. :D

Ive listened to it when it was released and still think it was dreadfull.

Was it the good production, nods to musical predescessors, solid song cycle, and good writing, or do you just dislike it on principle?

Listen to "Night at the Opera", "The Wall", "Melan Collie and the Infinite Sadness", "Shout at the Devil", "Tommy", and "Ziggy Stardust andThe Spiders from Mars" and call me back.

Its the style, the style was not something I like, I cant decide what section but it just wasnt what I like. My music taste is totally varied so no one can say that its my one way thought of music. I listen to pritty much everything.

*shrugs*

Just not the right thing for me.

Ive listened to the album several times. Even shoved it on and listened to every song on it today just purely to justify my opinion. How the hell I stayed awake through it all is a mystery.

Its not the is it or is it not emo, hell if your calling it theatrical then thats fine by me, its the singers voice. I just hate it. It is akin to listening to a tape of "a blackboard feat. nails" greatest hits. The voice goes through me, the lyrical content bores me, and I also dont rate the musical content either.

Ziggy stardust I find annoying, not "amazing". just annoying. Pink floyd, is pink floyd... and noone can do what they did as far as im concerned, they were a law unto their own. Even they manage to bore me (comfortably numb makes me want to stab my eyes out), and I bloody love their music normally.

MCR always have been... and always will be in my opinion, crap. :|

maximusotter

Hes got an average rockers voice. Sings on the money. His accent is a bit California, if youre wondering about the enunciation. If its crap, at least I have the NME, Rolling Stone, the Guardian, and Entertainment Weekly in my camp. :P

M3ta7h3ad

The End: I hate this makes me reach for the next button before he finishes the first line, its a song... its a man talking... its a song... its a man talking. ugh.

Dead: wtf is the lead singer doing with the wierd mouth noises... can he not pronounce the words "get what you deserve" without needing to slur the crap out of them as if hes gargling his own blood. The chorus annoys me... dont know why, just insanely annoys me.

How I disappear: Voice annoys me again, he likes that gargling sound a bit too much. Reminding me of the feelings I get when someone sucks snot from their nose into their throat and swallows. Makes me gag.

The Sharpest Lives: I like the power chord chug, I love guitar thats simple but rhythmic. Then.. oh no... fwwwooonnngggg noises on the guitar, then the lead singer with the snot/blood gargling issue comes into it again.... does he do this in every song deliberately? or is it a speech impediment?

Black Parade: ugg.... nothing spectacular to distinguish them as a band above any other pop/punk band. Just a non-issue of a song. Would listen to it on the radio, not because I like it, but because it just doesnt grab my attention enough to be annoying, so wouldnt change the station.

I dont love you: It starts like a U2 song. Ug... can tell Ill hate it by the time he starts singing, oh... and there comes the gargling again. He needs help with that I think.

House of Wolves: I like the drum intro, and the guitar intro sounds like something that would be at home on an early offspring album. But... then comes the singer, annoying voice again. Catchy chorus, but I just hate that singers voice.

Cancer: Dont see how this can at all be compared to bohemian rhapsody. Theres no life in it, in fact its just a slow boring song, with gargling problems again. oh wait... violins... no no... it just died on itself. Theres no OOMPF!.

Mama: Jingy Jangy guitar :) I quite like the guitar. The song reminds me of something Ive heard before... cant place a name on it, I quite like it, but not enough to justify a purchase of an album. Its just an odd song I like, oh no... chorus, well that spoilt it. :|

Sleep: Wasnt this piano riff/scale used in an earlier song? and the guitar riff sounds very familiar. argh, the voice again... arrgh!

Teenagers: now this is a song I actually like, makes me sing along to it, and it works well as a song. Would listen to this on repeat, and consider buying it as a single, but not enough to justify an album purchase

Disenchanted: pretty intro, quite like it...  but again, I just hate the singers voice. I can deal with the accent, I just hate the "way" that he sings. the rolled rs the gaaaaarrrggllleee, ugh.

Famous Last Words: Reminds me of the songs on their previous album, quite like it, its certainly not "cheeze" or anything, its just generic pop/rock, with a catchy riff in it. but again... his voice spoils it for me.

Hidden Track: ah well this is just shoved on for amusement sake.

So yeah, some tracks hold promise, but theres nothing spectacular throughout the entire album that I cant get elsewhere from other bands, his voice annoys the hell out of me, I just dislike it intensely.

lol this isnt a cockfight. Just sharing my opinion thats all :) Couldnt give a damn what reviewers say, if I dont like something then I dont like something :D

Teenagers I like, the rest can be erased from history.

Its a shame as some of the songs do have catchy guitar riffs, and good drum parts that grab your attention, but they are drowned out by the semi-drowning in snot/blood lead singer.

maximusotter

You must have brought some baggage with ya or something. I dont hear any of this "gargling" youre on about. Sure youre not overdriving the computer speakers? No problems here on some pretty damn fine carbon and aramid monitors.

I think "Cancer" is fantastic. Its totally camptastic!

What would Morrissey do? :D

M3ta7h3ad

Its in the song.

Listen to the song "dead" when he sings "get what you deserve" first time around, its crystal clear, then some wierd language comes out of him sounds sorta like hes gargling mucus, whilst attempting to say "get what you deserve" a second time. 29 seconds in.

Comes out as "et aaatttt ooohhh deserve" he misses the start of 3 words. :| He uses that "technique" in almost every song on that album.
