Title: Online Hardware stores
Post by: neXus on September 21, 2006, 17:14:56 PM
We could do with a sticky since i think quite a few of us are out of loop, i mean tekheads was there since it was sam and clocked for many of us and some others but there has been many changes to several stores and some are not the same or as good as they were and others like ebuyer have made great improvments.

So please post your recomended stores here and lets get a sticky please

Tekheads and Ebuyer are good suggestions.

I also recently found that Comets online store (http://www.comet.co.uk) is really quite good for laptops.

lets face it ebuyer could hardly have got any worse! still they do seem to be more or less reputable these days.

Ive used Microdirect a couple of times recently and found them to be pretty good. Only problem with them is they use Amtrack for delivery, and Amtrack are a pain in the posterior (at least they are around here).

Seems to be a thorn in some potentially good online stores, derlivery cost and who they use, but mind you it also depends on your area. Some people have dreadfull city link guys but the ones in my area are the best.

Online resellers that I can think of from the top of my head:

Scan
Ebuyer
Dabs
Komplett
Misco
Leapfrog
Overclock
Overclockers
Tekheads
CCL
Aria
Evesham/Lowest on Web
Watford/Savastore
Insight
Inmac
QuietPC

There are a lot more but none that come immediately to mind.

As well as Tek, I have high regard for Aria, who seem to not employ monkeys in the warehouse. I dont mind paying a bit more for decent delivery and good packing where necessary.

I cant fault ebuyer.  Allways had good service, delivery time pacakaging and find the prices very competetive.

I even had a monitor develop a fault in the first few days, wednesday I called them, thursday got an RMA number, arranged a pickup for friday, was tested and found faulty on monday and a replacement as requested was despatched to be delivered on wednesday.

So far can reccommend Tekheads, aria, Misco, Watford and 7dayshop who do cheap memory cards/usb sticks.

ive been saying this for about 2 years, and NOBODY believes me!

They are often cheaper than anyone else!

Its just a shame they have a chimp in charge of returns really. It took them three weeks to process a faulty soundcard I sent back to them and I didnt get any communication from them during the process. Not impressed at all.

yeah I think we got our HPLJ 2550 from them. I was also shocked to discover that the cheapest place on the net for my film scanner was Jessops.

ordered a router from Misco yesterday around 10pm and it got despatched early this morning. They even text my mob to tell me when I should expect it.

I just had an absolute shocker with Aria.

Ordered a Hard Disk as mine died, was in stock at a warehouse so would get it in two days. arranged for someone to be in to receive as i was working.

nothing there by the weekend so i call up on saturday. Sorry, you need to call back, customer services dont work on a saturday.

called back 5 times  over the course of 5 weeks to get a refund and nothing happened. I even threatened with trading standards and asked to speak to a manager. I was promised a call back from the manager 3 times and nothing.

The credit card company gave me my money back in the end.

the upshot was that the drive wasnt in stock with their supplier despite their website saying it was. so they couldnt send it. then they couldnt refund me without speaking to their supplier to ensure it hadnt been sent. do they think id waste 20 minutes on hold on my mobile 5 times to con them out of a hard disk?

terrible service, no explanation for the site being inaccurate, no reason not to email me and tell me the disk was delayed, no apologies for consistently failing to call me back.

in short, Ill never use aria again.

had reason to use CCL couple of weeks ago and they were perfect. even let you select Royal Snail so you get carded and the depot is in your town rather than the nearest city. Texted me to say despatched too. my new favourite supplier.

Matt

nearest city? man youre lucky, there are at least 2 citys and 3 major towns (one being the administrative centre of Buckinghamshire) closer to me than my nearest Amtrash depot.

I suspect Ebuyer is about to go down the pan.  They have had a number of sales/warehouse clearances much like the one they are doing now.  You only do them if you are short of money...

I stopped buying from e-buyer a good bit ago and never went back. They may be cheap but their packing is done by cowboy monkeys!!!  :o
