I have a cousin with a laptop that's a bit ropey.
They have some important docs on it but never back it up.
I'm looking for a way to backup in the easiest way possible ideally to the internet so they don't even have to plug anything in.
So im looking for:
1) Free safe/secure cloud storage.
2) Free software that will sync folder(s) to the storage without any user input and ideally in as close to real time as possible.
or
A product that comes with the storage and does the uploading all in one.
Anyone use anything like that? Any suggestions/recommendations?
Cheers
How much data?
Dropbox is the obvious answer for small amounts of data, to get any decent volumes of data you have to pay really (I have 7.25GB for free on my dropbox, but takes a little work to get there) I think I put a thread on here about it :)
I'm in the middle of setting up my own "cloud" using Bittorrent Sync, Syncing 3 devices across two sites, but I have a few hundred GB of stuff I want to Sync (Mostly photos)
Tresorit has a hefty free service and its okay if you don't have individual files larger than 500MB (perfect for photos, etc). My account has 50GB available or something daft.
Looks like free accounts are 5 - 16GB now, although better than drop box 2GB starting point!
How about gmail my account is 15GB
From memory I think they only have a few GB of data to backup and its all small docs.
I think Tresorit might be the way to go.
I'm using a chrome extension called Jolidrive atm, it just lists all the places you can get free storage, onedrive, dropbox, google, etc and makes it easy to manage from one interface.
Just don't let them be tempted to store everything in the white fluffy cloud, that's not a backup.
I ended up paying for dropbox after discovering google drive didnt support proxys.
I pay for dropbox 200gb. It's expensive really but its still by far the best client and works perfectly on linux too.
