MY pc has been crashing loads lately, I done mem test and tried a 2different hdds but its still crap, http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/w2000Msgs/6096.mspx?mfr=true

Anyone had that before?

Anyway I was looking at replacing the whole lot, so two questions;

I want a graphics card that can run supreme commander and C&C3 well, dont want to spend loads - am I looking at a 8600gt or would something cheaper do? I know its fanboyism but I dont want an ati card.

CPUs I wanna go intel c2d, but its out of this lot:

Is theE6550 the best buy? Bearing in mind Id need to spend more on the mobo.

Im tempted to go for a e4300 tho, theyre way cheaper and they clock like rabbits. Is the above worth the extra £45-£50? (inc. more expensive mobo). £45-50 would get me another hdd...

I need to replace the stuff asap, I know Barcelona is just round the corner but if its more than a week away I cant wait for the price drops.

in regard to the crashing problem

that stop error i have had many times before (with one machine however) and i sorta understood that it was the RAM, although it is quite possible that a corrupt file allocation table could be the problem (like the article said)

tried a reformat?
also, try taking out one of your memory modules and try combinations if you have more than one module installed

i found that sometimes a combination of memory modules from different brands could mess up the machine and it gets really upset

i dont actually know the real cause of this problem, i was on the phone for hours with MS tech support and they had no solution, and so in the end i just purchased a new machine (this time a retail HP desktop)

ive had nothing but bad luck when building my own machines

Ive tried:

2 different hdds
2 different ide (old skool!) cables
5 memory tests
full chkdsk (came back faily clear)
Windows rollback

One hdd just went missing, means I only have 1 copy of all my stuff mow  :shock: Ive turned it off now and I aint messing with it til Ive got a new pair of hdds.

Ive put the ram in a different machine now and Im gonna leave it for a few days. I think its the mobo tho

Pissed me off cos I really could do without blowing £400 on a new system.

edit: wooo, this pc just crash-rebooted, means its the memory
