Title: Pirates 3 - no spoilers
Post by: matt5cott on May 24, 2007, 22:48:15 PM
If youre going, take a sleeping bag...

Just got back from this, fortunately I was sitting in premier seating. Yhis still however didnt stop me getting umcomfortable, and to be perfectly honest, pretty bored at numerous points in the film.

Overall I thought it lacked any kind of real focus and point, I would rate the film passable if they cut the run time by at least half an hour (honestly you could do that losing zero content of any importance) but they didnt, so, a rating,  4.8/10

4.8 seems remarkably accurate. Are you sure you dont fancy pushing it up to 4.9 ?

Im getting dragged to see this on Saturday, not really looking forward to it as I thought the first one was dire and the second one was only marginally watchable.

4.9 is too close to 5, which is passable / average this film deserves to sit just under passable, 4.8 seems the sweet spot

If you thought the 2nd film was good and didnt drag, you probably fall into the 50% of people who can forgive this film, it would appear I fit into the other 50% http://uk.rottentomatoes.com/m/pirates_of_the_caribbean_3/

The last, longest, and most tedious of the bunch, At Worlds End sags under reams of exposition that not only fail to clarify the story, but take away from the slapstick tomfoolery that made the first film escapist fun.

Summed it up nicely for me.

However it is not confusing as so many critics seem to state, sure a lot goes on, but confusing? no, for a child? possibly. On the subject of which, I heard 2 different bunches of kids saying they got bored, I would make a joke about following them to the toilets, oh I just did.

A glazed, inhuman, cluttered piece of work, a storytelling mishmash that buries the considerable charms of its actors under heavy drifts of silt.

Roger wouldnt be so jolly if he had to sit through Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, a tiresome, disorienting walk down a 165-minute-long plank.

At Worlds End has some fun stuff. If only it werent so stuffed to the gills with moving parts.

Betrayal... is the most apt word for At Worlds End. Betrayal of purpose, and of promise, and of the grand, glorious finale that everyone wanted so dearly to see.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer does deserve a shoutout: It takes a kind of genius to sucker audiences into repeatedly buying the same party tricks.

A convoluted, ponderous, joyless spectacle whose lack of charm is matched only by its incoherence.

Adrift in the windless seas of its 168-minute running time, the viewer passes through confusion and boredom into a state of Buddhist passivity.

Honestly, to like this film you must be the kind of person who smiles and says thanks when they get short changed.

I loved the first one - really loved it. The second was really disappointing although I know i need to give it a second watch. Im apprehensive about the 3rd.

mmm I was really looking forward to this, now that youve slammed it perhaps it will drop my expectations far enough to not hate it.

I hope so.

The biggest crime is, with better editing and a little more focus this film could have been pretty good :(

I mean dont expect to see a crapfest! the film is not crap, but its just not that great either :)

Regardless, will be interesting to see what others think.

It was rather tedious in places, and fairly convoluted and anti-climactic. Im not really that much of a fan of any of these films but it was certainly better than the rather dire first Pirates movie, although it wasnt as good as the second. I dont think Id watch it if it were on the TV, I must admit. Its just.... meh. All camp acting and no real substance.

It was far more Disney than the other outings, but it kept me entertained enough not to fall in with what I would consider tedious. It didnt flow effectively at all though and out of the three it was definitely the worst. I thought the first was marvellous, this showed clear signs of pulling out all the stops for a franchise coming to an end, and resulting in a film thrown together. Id put it above average though. 3 w00ts. Or on Matts scale, errr 7.2

well as far as I could make out the plot made approximately zero sense, but I quite enjoyed it. There was enough fighting and explosions to keep me happy :)

i thought it was a really good film. i admit some of the scenes were dragged out a bit longer than they should have been, but once again it was successful in making me want to be a pirate when i came out of the cinema.
