Been round a mates house whos reported his pc randomly turns itself off, when it does this the only way to get it working again is to remove the fuse from the power cable plug and re-insert it, once done the pc boots back up.

He said its intermittent.

I dont really know what is causing it, been through the system, cleaned it, checked cables and cards/mem is inserted.

I can only think PSU? But couldnt understand the need to remove the fuse each time.

Any ideas?

unless its actually the plug or the fuse.... then the fuse thing is balls / superstition / folk law !

he just has to leave it unplugged for a while / leave it for a while before he tries to boot it up..... to a non pc guy if he didnt leave it long enough, and then one time took the fuse out, by the time he puts it back it boots up, and now he thinks he has to do it every time !

Only thing that springs to mind is maybe a loose wire in the plug... and moving it to remove and replace the fuse nudges it back into place?

Get him to swap it with his monitor cable and if his monitor starts going off

It could be something else turning on in his house maybe? causing the computer to have some electrical problem?

When I turn my computer off (from the start menu) I have to turn the power at the plug off until some capacitor I can hear draining in my PSU of the power. I have to leave it off for about 10 seconds or so to do this and then my PC will turn on.

Id say try leaving the PC switched off at the wall for a minute and try powering it up.

I didnt think of it, but i have a plug socket like this on an extension cable i bought, the plug goes in but it doesnt seem to make any contact, maybe its the socket or the cable.

Tried a fresh fuse yet?
