Can anyone reccomend me a decent PSU around the £40 mark, 550W-600W ish [the more the merrier], must have a PCI-E 6pin or two, and an 8-pin atx alongside the usual 24pin. Quiter ones are preferred.

White Giant

Ive always used Enermax, not had a problem yet.

Last expensive PSU I had fried and took my motherbaord and RAM with it, since then ive bought cheapies that blow the fuse when they get bored.  Present one is about 18 months old now i think. http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=468732

Cheap, cheerful and just works.  Not an overclockers PSU, but im not spending a fortune on PSUs again.

I been looking at the Hiper M580 [ http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=386404 ], its got a clever connector system to help keep the case tidy. And it has the PCI-E and P8 plugs that I need. But if anyone has a better idea, throw it by me.

Hiper have a bad rep for going bang and taking half your system with them, having said that i have not had any experiance with them myself but just have a search around for user comments.

Will do. Im trying to get a concerted opinion from many, preferably people who own em...considering that, anyone know any good sites with user-submitted reviews on these things?

Tekheads Support

i use a hiper type R 580w watt at home.

not had a problem with it, been running nearly 3 years now, do find it gets hot but it think that is due to it being overworked :)

Id like to get a modular, but they tend to be more expensive...which leads me to Hiper, as they use the special extensions to get more than 6 or 7 connectors. Saves cluttering up the case.

Cypher

I have a Hiper PSU myself.  Nice bit of kit, even comes in a tool box. :)

El Jacko

Thats the R-series...Im looking at an M-series [short of cash atm]

Pete

Get the cheapest one you can find with the right connections.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

White Giant

Enermax do modular, first to do it from what I remember.

I think the Hiper M580ll be the one for me. I could do with a tidy case. And at £40, its a good price. The only worry Ive got is that its all-mesh, so any exhaust effect of the fan in it is wasted, as I get a case full of hot air. Maybe a copious amount of duck tapell sort it...

El Jacko

OK, the M580s out of the question now Ive seen the reviews and efficiency ratings [about 76% tops]

I think Ill save up my pennies and go for a Corsair VX550 or maybe the next model up. Should handle xfire no problem.
