Title: Power output of a headphone jack?
Post by: zpyder on March 14, 2010, 21:00:50 PM
Im curious just how much power can be gotten out of a 3.5mm headphone jack? Ive seen a few devices which are charged via such sockets, and Ive always attributed these devices to be a little on the cheap and tacky side, such as cheap mobile phones, PDAs, and in the current case a cheap electric shaver.

Is there any reason why the manufacturers opt for these? Are they safer? More economical...or just cheaper?

theyll be able to take just as much power as similar sized connectors... so laptop power supplies etc...

and I guess the big downside with them is..... theres a whole bunch of dumb people out there will go and plug it into there hifi/etc.. because A) they dont realise its a dumb thing to do or B) they know its a dumb thing to do, but are dumb enough to do it anyway to see what happens
