Hi,

I have a problem with a motherboard I have recently bought (to put a Pentium D d805 in), but I have hit a problem. The motherboard has the 24 pin ETX still connector, fine.

There is also an 8 pin block on the board, this I have gathered is due to it being a dual core chip.

The problem is that there is no connector on the PSU like it and I cant really tell which motherboards do have it.

Its in the top right hand corner. Not seen it before and need to have it as the book of words says without it, nowt will work.

Please give me a hand as this has me stumped.

The standard ATX connector should plug in to the mobo socket leave some of the socket exposed. It should plug in from one end or the other, it will not plug in to the middle of the socket.

As for the extra power socket (top-right), take your 4-pin P4 power connector and that will plug into 4 of the 8 pins. Again it will be one end or the other but not into the middle.

I had the same problem with some Intel P4 eATX mobos I sourced.

Tried this, no joy. The PSU I think needs the proper connector, as they bottom row on that picture are 12v pins, and the top are ground. So I am thinking it has to have the power really.

I shall be buying a proper PSU :( unless someone can vouch for another lesser costing one fron ebuyer or somewhere.

That looks very much like what I had to plug into a Dual Opteron board not so long ago. If it is, an EPS power supply like this should work.

Never seen a uniprocessor board that needed one though.

he replied to my email with

"I never had an 8pin adaptor, just plugged the 4pin into the 8pin slot (was designed so you could, wasnt just a bodge)

Ill have a loot for the 20-24pin one"

so the 4->6 pin one should work :)

and hes looking for the bigger one L)
(tho he only paid Ã,£2 for it on ebuyer iirc)

What Knighty is really saying is that you should drink more wine before plugging it in, itll definately go in easier then  8)

I have the 24 pin one, thats not a problem, I have plugged the P4 4 pin type into the 8 pin slot (the only way it will go) and it doesnt post.

Sod it, Ive bought a 4 pin molex to 8 pin EPS converter. I have a 480w PSU already so it has enough juice for a dual core, PCI-e vga and a single maxtor 250gb sata drive and a couple of other things.

That should do the trick. Fingers crossed.
