I enjoyed it, but it felt like a long winded 'first half' of a film, oddly enough I'm really looking forward to part 2 as I think it's a great premise and together I bet they will hold up a shed load better, it's just the pacing is a bit off for me.

B.) pay almost double to go 3D 'premier' turn up at 8.40PM, get a pint of guinness, take it to my guaranteed best seat in the house when the movie is literally just about to start watching no adverts or crap knowing that the usher will be bringing my 2nd guinness an hour into the movie.

Which cinema can you do that in? I'd pay more for that kind of service!

everyman cinemas are a bit like that:

The one in Angel has the option of sofa seats (though the regular seats have plenty of leg room) and is the same price as the average vue, odeon etc.. in London. Has a bar at the back and also the entrance to the men's toilet is inside the screen room just to the side of the screen - no faffing about going down a bunch of corridors etc... as per a multiplex if you absolutely have to go.

one line from the trailer is really bugging me for some reason 'No, not a map, an invitation'

yeah! that does my head in aswell, hate cringey cheesy lines like that.

Quixoticish

That line is wonderful. It underpins the entire feeling of the movie, it almost had an old Trek feel; how wonderful the universe is and how it's in our nature to explore. There's a nice theme running throughout where almost every charachter over-reaches in their exploration, it's that idea of sticking your hand down a dark hole to see what's there, pressing the big red button that says "don't touch", that kind of thing. Our intrinsic desire to push the boundaries and constantly discover what's over the horizon even if it costs us dearly in the process. And it's made even more delightfully ironic given how the film deals with our origins as a species.

Eagle

The film's still sh*t though...

It's actually not. You didn't enjoy it. There's a big difference.

Eagle

Well my feelings concur with a lot of people in the sci-fi community who are panning the movie.

And your feelings do not agree with the sentiment expressed by many other people in the sci-fi community who loved the movie. Incidentally I'd argue that most of the criticism is coming from the Alien fans who wanted it to be Alien 5 and are gutted that it isn't.

Seriously, why is it so hard to admit that it just wasn't your cup of tea?

Eagle

Science fiction is exactly my cup of tea. Ridley simply blew it in my opinion.

I've not long got back from the cinema having watched, I'd give it 7.5/10 or  :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

I agree with many of Quixoticish's sentiments on the film. I think this lives up to my exact expectations for the most part and is typical Ridley (there's so many little nods to Alien not just in setting but in characters and execution its not even funny really), but I can also understand why some people would feel the pacing is off and have plenty of questions. I think it's the sort of film that needs a second viewing and DC or Prometheus 2 to complete it.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Binary Shadow

I saw it over the long weekend.

Thought it was great :ptu: dont know what people didnt like about it tbh

Rivkid

Saw this last night. Feelings are mixed.

I thought it was a good film - lets be clear - it was good. I didn't think it was great or 'epic' as a couple of my mates insisted it was, but I did enjoy it. I thought its worst two point as a standalone film was it took far too long to get going and the final sequence wasn't built up enough. Minor qualms really.

As a prequel to 'Alien', (which it is - I don't care how often Scott uses the terms 'quasi' or 'loosely', if you set the scene and explain certain details then you've made a prequel like it or not...) in this form I liked certain things but not others. Whilst it was nice to get some things from the 'Alien' universe explained, I personally felt certain things were better left as questions. Its all well and good to dot the i's and cross the t's, but Alien and Aliens have been two of the most enjoyable films to debate of all time - but now there's so much less to debate because its been largely explained. When you've created such a monumental legacy, that everyone can interpret in their own way, its probably best not to later crush many of those interpretations by giving a definite explanation. I can understand why fans of Alien/Aliens who've had ideas and beliefs they've held for years proven wrong are pretty annoyed about it.

Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!

Leon

Well next thing that should give us an some alienness:

is going to be awesome :D
