What about if sony is actually doing a negativity campaign.

"Expect nothing, and be happy when you get something."

rather than

"Expect it all, and be unhappy when you dont get everything you wished for".

This could all be viral marketing on a massive scale. Granted it has that "no critics allowed" feel that most crap films do before the premiere, but the leaks of info, the reporter being taken for a ride, all signs that someone is orchestrating a massive PR campaign.

If they underplay the greatness of the console, is it not possible that when it gets released with better specs than are being reported... prices will rise, and numbers of orders will soar.

That said, id buy a Wii or an Xbox 360. Wii to play games, an Xbox 360 to play arcade games.

Dudes, lets all wait till what happens when TGS is on. As I mentioned in earlier reply post, this is the last chance Sony have to sway opinions and also show off the big guns and reveal everything.

I think we should not post here till the TGS show has started and announcements happen.

I for one hope (and expect) sony to crash and burn with the PS3.  Over ambitious on the hardware front, it will prove costly and unreliable to manufacture.  It will run hot and probably loud, and the architecture will be a bitch to code for.  Add on the huge price tag (and the likely loss sony will be stomaching just to sell the consoles), the lack of willing developers, and the cheap and readily availiable competitors, and its a no brainer.

Ive never bought a console within 3 years of its release, but Ill probably buy a Wii within weeks if it sells at the suggested price.  Who cares if its underpowered?  The PS2 doesnt get a look in when me and my mates get together, its pub then GC all the way baby.

Itll sell and do well, even if ms knock Ã,£100 off their box. Ive spoken to people about ps3 and why theyre getting it and the replies tend to be; "cos its a ps3." I ask em about blu-ray or xbox360 and theyre like "whats that?"

They dont care how many pixels or ghz or bpm its got if its got that PS3 badge on.  The brand names that strong a lot of people dont see past it.

I got nothing against Sony, except for their crappy headphones, and I dont especially like m$ but I got a sneaky feeling that the PS3 aint exactly blowing the 360 out the water graphically.

Just look at the screenshots of Gears of War for the 360 as a proof that it is just as capable as the PS3 in the correct hands.  I believe it uses the Unreal engine.

I would actually put forward and say that the 360 will produce the better looking games.

We all know the PS3 is allready reported to be a pig to program and as with every console developers have learnt the machine and the programing and produced better games.
Halo to Halo 2 for example and the metal gear games for the ps2.

Whats come out for the 360 is allready nice and it is more cosy to program so for some time better looking games will come out for it untill the ps3 has been licked in terms of coding for it, very different structure to it so will take some time
Sony then have labled it to have a life of 5 years as per the norm for consoles so makes you think.

Both will produce dam fine looking games at the end of the day and it will be again down to quality price and cost.

One thing though, MS has XNA Game Studio Express on beta now for you to create games and when it hits live they are looking to open up some room on the xbox360 and Live. In a year or so you could very well see at least on live games made by the public you can download and play on the 360 which will again give it a boost to its function and life span.
