Hands up who wasnt expecting that?
This is only for the European release (for now?), sony reckon its a manufacturing capacity issue rather than the fact that their console is a farce.
lol, yey!!!!
one step closer to death of Playstation! :D
and the capacity is low this late on because? yes - because they cant make it work properly and is at lower than claimed speed.
If it wasnt living off the playstation/Sony name noone would be taking this console seriously.
The point is though that they are still planning on getting it on the shelves in their two largest markets on time.
I doubt the lost revenue from Europe, Russia, Asia and Austrialisa will be anywhere near the amount they would lose from not getting it on the shelves in Japan or the US for Christmas !
theyre using the excuse of not being able to manf. enough blue ray laser diodes.
Look - who cares about delays because of the diodes?? At least they are taking their time getting things right for the console before launch, unlike Microsoft who rushed the console and had to recall power adapters!!!!
Also, it gives everyone more time to save up for the console when it is released in March 2007!

Sony really can do no wrong in your eyes can they?
Your fanboy attitude really gets on my tits tbh. Cant you recognise a poorly executed product when you see one?

Same for everyone in here tbh inc. you with your Xbox 360 fanboyism :x Watch this thread get flamed. Dont come to me if this happens. I warned you all. Goodbye!

I dont recall any such recall for the 360. Are you referring to the Xbox? At least you will be able to buy a (very expensive) US PS3 from ebay in November.
Everyone cares because its another reason to laugh at Sony and their arrogant approach to nextgen. Their launch numbers for the US appears to be more than MS had for the 360, I believe it managed 326,000 units in November 2006.

Eh? I dont have a 360 and nor will I ever buy one. Hardly a fanboy now am I?
personally i hope the ps3 flops, sony is pretty much crap at everything else it does, and makes out its great.
marketing heh.
Ok funky, youre safe. Sorry.
At the end of the day though, Europe is the most complicated region in the world for the release of any new product (not just because of all the different languages but all the different laws in all the different countries as well).

Oops - yeh i think i was referring to the Xbox, but the other thing I found out when googling a minute ago was that the first lot of Xbox 360s did tend to crash a lot.
My Xbox360 has only crashed when it was really hot (it was summer) and I was playing Oblivion. There have been well publicised issues, but you tend not to hear from people who dont experience problems.
Every other console Sony (or anybody else for that matter) have made has tackled the European market without too much trouble.
Its been pointed out that is why they have delayed Europe, it is such a strong market for Sony (PS2 currently outsells Xbox360 5:1) that they can safely delay it and not hurt their market too much. They are still raking it in with the PS2.

I totally agree with what you say about the market. It wont harm the PS3s market when released in March I hope.
Im more excited about it actually now than before because Sony will most likely be announcing everything on the PS3 at this years TGS which is not far away, a week and a half away I think, and Ill be keeping an eye on the TGS news when the show starts. Im intrigued on the PS3 online play details more than anything.
Oh well, Ill be playing Vice City Stories or MGS 3: Subsistence while I wait for the PS3  Quite looking forward to these games.
Basically they have or will only just actuall finish the working model and will just about make some machines for an eastern release around xmas and no where near enough for the rest of the world, hence the dealy, your stupid if you think its for any other reason tbh.
Its quite shocking that the Japanese market is only getting a quarter of what the US market is getting. That is very surprising.
I wonder how much MS will trumpet the fact they did a "successful" worldwide launch and Sony could not manage it.
I am very dissapointed in Sony for delaying the launch. I doubt we will get more games at launch, I think they will delay releases in Europe so there isnt a drought after the machine is launched. I would not expect Assassins Creed to be a launch title despite it being touted as March07 release.
The delay will also hurt UK game sales for the console. As it is meant to be multi-region, by the time it is released here the launch games will probably have come down in price in the US and I can see a lot of people importing.
Its good for gamers, but bad for businesses.
I bet you will have only 10ish games if that on release
Doubt it nexus. Theyll delay the launch titles that was supposed to be released in November and whatever comes out on March 2007 could be a launch title now. If MGS4 is to be released in March, even though they havent announced the date yet, then thats a good thing as this game is going to be great. Ill be getting the game! Even the games like UT 2007 can be a launch title now. Well have to wait for more info on game release dates now before we know how many will be released on launch day.
They would be silly to do that, the worse thing you want is a glut of titles at launch and then no new titles for 3+ months which is what it could end up being. I suspect anything due to be launched then would get "extra polishing" thus delaying the title for a month or two. They will hurt their sales by launching theirs during the launch imo.
There is also no way that MGS4 will be ready for March imo. It will be late 2007. I would expect to see most titles pushed back slightly.

This is what I am thinking a lot of the devlopers will see this and delay their games, Japan will have 10 games with say 10 more soon after but will be the old japan only stuff.
I am still wary of their US release tbh, I dont think they will, going on their numbers you would not even know it was out there would be so little in terms of conolses availible you cant call that a launch tbh.
This quote from sony made me laugh:
QuoteBut it halved its forecast for the end of 2006, saying just two million units would be shipped worldwide before the end of December.
So it will launch but its going to be the worst launch ever seen, you will just not see the machine bar magazine and website reviews over in the US and your lucky if you can get one in Japan.
Production next year has also been halfed till summer in terms of units, thats really bad.
Sony keep saying its just the blue ray but we know they have only just about finished the interface, they have had memory problems, they could not fit the thing in the machine for ages, they have had heat issues as well, its got more fans then first designed for.
scary thing is, i bet you could get a media center pc for the same price as a ps3 when it launches and get more outta it. :?

What, and thats a great advantage is it? Like the fact that it will be less snowy when its released so therell be less of a weather distraction?

This thread delivers...
unlike some companies.

I know that is what you meant. I think if a publisher does release as they intended they will be swamped by the other launch titles thus hurting their sales. If the launch had gone as planned they would have been sure of good initial sales because they would have been releasing their game in quiet patch post launch.
Some Xbox360 titles benefitted from releasing their games Jan-Mar. The months post launch are traditionally quiet. Im not saying some publishers wont do what you say, they will. If they do though, they are stupid.
Yeh...
The only other thing that cna happen is that all game releases would be pushed back for PAL territories and to be honest, that is not a good one either because it means waiting to the end of the year or even 2008 for the best PS3 games like MGS4 and GTA4.
That happens anyway because European games have to have French, German, Swedish, etc languages added other wise they would have to press the game for each country which costs too much. We should all be used to delayed launches ;)
Im not bothered about PS3 being delyaed cos Im used to it - I mean, games have been delayed that i preordered before and i werent bothered...at least you get it eventually!
I bet you will be able to pick up a 360 core for about Ã,£170 when the PS3 finally comes out, you just know microsoft will turn the screws

what im mildly amused at is the Nintendo execs tlaking about buying a Wii and a 360 to "compliment" each other, and the MS execs doing the same. Gentlemans Agreement possibly?

i think that decision was made for them by consumers to be honest... its a cunning plan, but it may just work, kill Playstation and inherit the earth.
So long as games like MGS4 are not put at risk and come out one way or another, I couldnt care less if the PS3 flops.
Quote from: CypherSo long as games like MGS4 are not put at risk and come out one way or another, I couldnt care less if the PS3 flops.
it needs to flop, for the sake of the gaming industry, to be honest...
if it succeeds, its carte blanche to keep churning out high priced machines which fleece consumers... they can produce cheap machines, which will sell - look at nintendo with the GC and DS, why sony constantly feel the need to crank the power up and hence the cost is beyond me, people want to play games, pure and simple, thats what differentiates it from a PC - simple and cheap.

Yeah, we need it to fail for the good of the gaming industry as you say.
We dont want stupid price machines, we want better looking games but still play well.
We dont want devlopment costs to get even worse then they are now and cause games to be Ã,£60-70
