Recently I noticed the weeks where entirely uneventful and just felt like they where just flying by, and I feel like I'm spending my evenings just 'doing nothing' it's hard to describe :gag: :-X Anyway, last night I realised I think it's because I haven't properly played any video games this year, I usually put in at least 8/10 hours over the weekend, and a couple at least every other week night.
This year so far I just haven't, Skyrim I got bored with despite putting a good 40 hours pre xmas in and not even doing any of the main missions ('saving them') Now my xbox sits downstairs, I haven't used it since probably November, my PS3 I switch on to listen to music, infact the only game I've played recently is fruit ninja when I'm taking a dump, and maybe 2/3 10 minute blasts on the new Twisted Metal beta.
Early last week I bought sonic generations for my ps3 as it was dirt cheap, it's still in the shrink wrap.
I'm not giving up gaming or anything, it's just that right now for the first time in 15 or more years nothing on the market makes me want to play it, and this odd feeling, an unfulfilled void, or withdrawl symtpoms or whatever it is, is entirely bizarre! ???
Has anyone experienced anything like this?
I'm in exactly the same boat.
I've got pre-orders in shrink wrap from 6 months ago, when I could have waited and picked them up cheap by the time I'll get round to playing them.
Wouldn't go quite so far but I'm playing a lot less games than what I did, bought loads of games on the steam sales before christmas and I've played one I think and I've only played CoD3 on my xbox but even then only once or twice a week. There's a couple of preorders that I'll sit and play when they come out, but not that much really.
Started to realise I need to get out more instead of sitting playing games, so I've sat on my arse and done nowt instead :-\ maybe this year...
Most of my games have fallen by the wayside, but rather than having lots of free time its usually down to me not having the time to devote to a few hours of game playing, or I'll spot a film a or something on that I haven't seen and decide to watch that instead. I've still got PS3 games I've never played, despite owning the console for over a year and a half. It really annoys me actually, but eventually I'll be a position where I can spend less time working and more time just doing these things.
That and the fact that most games now are just sh*t rehashes. Usually when I do play something it ends up being an online game on Steam with knighty or Bacon and the few other people on my friends list.
Sounds normal and healthy to me tbh, I was a pretty heavy gamer from my teens to mid 30's - I got jaded of it 4 or 5 years ago, now I consider myself to be a gaming butterfly.
I racked up an insane number of hours in MMO's back in SWG and WoW (7-8 hours on a work day, 16+ on a day off) but now I can go 3 months without touching a game for more than an hour or 2 a week ... but then a game grabs me and I will rack up the hours and really enjoy it for awhile, I'm pretty happy with that as I still enjoy games, but gaming simply doesn't matter as much as it once did.
Was gonna say, it sounds like you're "growing up".
Gaming was pretty much all I used to do until I met kathryn. I haven't touched my xbox since (13 months ago) and the only real game I've played has been Skyrim, which she got me as an xbox present.
I crave and miss some games, mainly ones that are sequels, especially the final in a series, so I really want to play Gears of War 3, Mass Effect 3 etc, and hope I can at some point, but it may not be for a while.
When playing skyrim I also find myself more and more frequently thinking to myself that I could be using that time more productively :(
I went through a phase like this not too long ago and ended redressing my entire work/life balance because of it. I was spending what amounts to (for me) far too much time vegetating in front of the PS3, but when I started more active hobbies I found myself enjoying my (albeit limited) gaming time a lot more. I could relax and enjoy essentially doing nothing because I was physically tired but still quite mentally alert. And it becomes something quite special when you can spend an entire Sunday on the PS3, it only happens once in a blue moon now but I appreciate it when it does happen.
I think Zypder's got it right, we're all growing up [gay vadar voice]Nooooooooooooooooo![/gay vadar voice]
I've never actually played an MMO always because I don't want to get sucked into it, the last game that happened with was Counter Strike but I was unemployed at the time so was allowed to :D
It doesn't help that a lot of games are clones of each other and they're all £30 depending on what platform you get them for and we've nearly always got something better or more important to spend the money on, damn houses!
I'm kind of the same, but if I buy a game at full price it's because I want to play it now, I have a pile of games that I have got ages after release for £5-£10 that I'll play when I get round to it around other things, like girl friend duties and photography, and I pick up mine craft occasionally to have a bit of a play...
...I'm in the process of renovating the spawned village near the castle/skybase and it was looking a bit tatty, then I'm going to fill it full of villagers :)
Nexus the "Gay Vader Voice" tag appears not to be working, can you fix it please?
I don't think it's me getting old, it's as above the same stuff being rehashed thats doing it I think as I look at games and immediately atm I'm just going 'pass'
I'm getting the PS-Vita with everybodys golf and uncharted, hopefully I'll enjoy those! :dunno:
I play games when I can be arsed :)
Used to be hooked on eve online and now it's starcraft 2.
There is a common factor in this though it's being able to play with others. I almost never bother playing single player aspects of games.
Otherwise I'm with nige, I'll watch a movie or something.

Yep, you are well past old now and on the way to ancient :P
I've had quite a few times when I've not even been able to gather enough effort to switch on the PC for weeks. Over the last two years I've been away from tekforums more than I've been on :o
and I've still got over 4K more posts than anyone else? Come on you slackers, spam those posts ya lazy dogs :ptu:
Only time I get to play is maybe once a week for 4hrs. I've had Skyrim sat around for weeks now and have done about 2hrs on it just due to not having the time.
When we move into the new place I think the xbox is just going to turn into a Media box.
Vita tomorrow and mass effect 3 soon, so hopefully will be blowing dust off the xbox and doing some vita-ing :ptu:
I got a 3ds a couple of months ago which is pretty good. Not sure about the vita, the PSP was a bit of a waste of time.
I want to pick up resi for it, but an exceedingly large purchase has put my spending on hold for a while .

I've not been that inspired to play it either, since I heard all three endings are terrible. I've only done three or so missions and not gone back to it. :-\
