Im looking for a bargain basement broadband connection for a friend. Requirements:

< 3 months minimum contract period
Free (or very low) connection fee
Free (if possible) modem/wireless router

I dont care at all about speed or download limits (edit: well, at least 10gb probably needed).

Any recommendations?

Cheers,

Ian

Edit: Best deals Im aware of so far:
Virgin Media [1mb/unlimited]: Ã,£14.99/month, No Connection Charge, Ã,£50 cancellation charge, Free Modem (not wireless)
Eclipse [8mb/2gb p.m.]: Ã,£14.99/month, No Connection Charge, Ã,£47 cancellation charge, Free modem (not wireless)

Beaker

no provider offers those terms.  The short contract charge you for connection, and the free connections are all long contracts.

Long time no see mate!

I know Eclipse offer a short term contract, but with a large connection/disconnection fee.

I recently suffered a net outage due to an upgrade, and I found an unsecured wireless network to use for the day. It might not be legal, or indeed ethical, but needs must.  8)

tis shocking how many unsecured networks are around atm

people are just asking for trouble

War Driving for the win ;) Nice 8meg line in the center of town, no one seems to use it much so if we were feeling nasty we could just rape the line for torrents while sitting in cars :) Niceness ;)

Poison, have edited your post just in case, put in in line with a certain boxer who didnt murder his wife but was going to show how he might have done it.

The best Ive found myself so far is Virgin Media:

1mb service
Ã,£14.99/mo
Ã,£0 connection
Ã,£50 cancellation fee
Free modem (not wireless)

I can probably lend my friend the wireless kit so not so crucial.

Anyone know of anything slightly cheaper?

Cheers for the Eclipse suggestion WG... but I think a 2gb download limit on the lowest package is probably just too little

Might be worth looking at bulldog, not sure of prices but they have a 1 month contract and have been good for me.

freebe wireless kit is asking for trouble imo, my sister has Orange wireless and I eventually had to patch a Linksys Wireless router onto it to get a stable connection.

Nothing is truly free, the company still has to pay for it and if they are giving them away they will be the cheapest, shoddiest router boxes they can lay their hands on.

Careful of the free modem (none-wireless) as it may be USB-only which it makes a generally epic pain in the arse. EDIT - if your wireless kit doesnt have a built-in modem that is.
