Just had a couple of random reboots of late while starting the machine,

fired up speed fan and my voltages are well outta spec,
+5 is at 4.35 and +12v is at 10.70,
-12 at -12.72 and -5 at -4.24

not bad for a 4 year oldish psu (enermax 431w) but obviously i need a new un now (unless something more serious like the caps have gone on the mobo   )

machines nothing special by todays standards,
asus nforce2 board, xp3200, 2 optical drive & between 1 and 4 hdds ( two once ive de-commissioned the two semi dead IDE ones)
radeon 9700 pro (uses a floppy power connector) and a dvb tuner (probably 2 in future)

not sure what the wattage id need with that little lot.

no need for SLI connectors atm as i wont be upgrading for a while yet.

Hiper Type R PSUs are good value for the money, go for a 480W version, plenty for your future hardware plans.
Oh and its modular too :) looks nice in black.

madmax

ill try and track one down, ta

Got a 580w one here. Very very swish looking, and bang on the button for the money. :) really nice.

my old 550w enermax that i sold to my little brother is still going strong after a good few years running (it was over a hundred quid when i got it!)

his system wouldent power up the other day tho after hed moved it, tracked it down to the psu... took it out, cover off, blew it cleen with the air compressor, and wala back up and running 100% ;)

madmax

ill give that a go too then,

best blow from the dry rather than the wet line though

Enermax are excellent.

I have the Akasa Paxpower which is also an excellent PSU.
The paxpower is the quietest thing in my system ATM.

I would totally recommend either of them two makes

I use Tagan, after having a number of other brand PSUs the Tagan work like a dream, they look v.cool and are V.QUIET. Cant recommend them high enough.   8)

I think once you star spending some decent money on a PSU there all going to be pretty much the same tbh..

theyll all have good rails, be reliable and very quiet

I personally like to go for overkill with a PSU... I was running that 550w enermak with my 1.8xp, 1 HD and 1 CD drive...

the thinking being its hardly doing any work, so itll be nice and cool, and as the fan speed adjusts to temp... then quiet too :)

madmax

well ive cleaned it out, was caked in dust.

but its had no effect, the rails are still really low.

hmmm enermax 400w liberty looked good when i was poking about earlier,
reviews look good too

knighty

i *think* its either a enermax 380 in my little brothers sedond rig.,,,,

1.8xp, 4 hard drives, 2 cd drives, loads a cards etc... no probs :)

as long as its a good make like that, then 400w is loads :)

madmax

right its really starting to crap out on me too frequently now,
try and do anything remotely useful like playing music AND surfing the net for more than 2 mins..  *sigh*

cant stand it not working so ill be getting one from up town instead of waiting for a courier.

this is the only one in derby that has a site still working,
http://www.gladiatorcomputers.com/ProductDetail.aspx?StockCode=PSUAKP400FGBK&Link=SearchResults
says in stock and reviews ive seen like the 480W version so ill shoot a wadge of cash on that tomorrow unless someone knows theyre crap or something better on there at reasonable levels.

PC world only list that jeantech stuff and maplins only seem to be listing cheap and uncheerfulls.

knighty

mmm, you sure its ther psu then ?

Id try connecting/disconnecting stuff, see if that effects it

if know one pople (on here) with a nackered psu, but its ok if they dissconect a cd drive or too... (till they get a new psu)

id say system load shouldent make much difference on psu load, its more the extras youve got connetyed ?

Shaun

madmax The Akasa should be fine  :-)
