I got winXP pro and I wanna enable remote access, but the tab in RC->My Computer isnt there.
Is there another way of doing it, or does anyone know how to get the tab back?
Thx
I dont know of anyway to remove that tab, its something Ive been searching out for a very long time :o
I can tell you that I am fairly certain you have to be an Administrative user to see the tab so that could be your problem.
The tab is always there, even in XP Home which doesnt support direct RDP connections.
Its odd. Ive tried a few fixes and Im gonna reboot in a sec and hope it works, otherwise Im gonna try a full repair with the original XP disk.
If that dont work Im gonna have to break the seal on the Vista box and unleash hell.
edit: Its more fecked that I thought. The Firewall wont turn on and the NW wizard craps out.
local policy??
Having fast user switching on often disables alot of these features (security issue). Turn it off in My Computer > Users, restart and then see
Are the necessesary services turned on like RPC etc.
yah all the services are on. I checked against a lappy and its all the same.
I tried repairing/reinstalling but my dvd drive is knackered now :/
Either that or both install cds are fecked. Cos I just installed AOE3 ok..

edit: I got network resources back up but still no remote access. There must be another way of enabling it. :/

Ta for reminding me, I forgot to switch that little burger off when I reinstalled :D
is it XP pro ?
the home version of XP misses some of this stuff out ?
(had a problem before when I couldnt connect out from someone elses computer because of this)
can you use logmein free?
i know its not perfect, but its suitable for most folks.
from a command prompt:
reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server" /v "fDenyTSConnections" /d "0" /f
That wont get you your tab back, but you should be able to connect remotley.
DeltaZero actually proving hes worth his salt there. Try it and see.
And give him some stars if it works ;)
Ive got stars on standby ready for deployment but I cant test it until tomorrow now.
Did it work ?
Nope, it wont even connect.
Ill get some VNC software later and make do with that.
The only thing I can find is using this command.
regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\remotepg.dll
If you need to extract the dll from an XP CD the command is
EXPAND X:\I386\REMOTEPG.DL_ -R C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
X being the optical drive.
