I was wondering if anyone knew of a decent source to find out if anyone in the UK will be deploying the format any time soon?

Im waiting until August for a new handset (N96), and it seems something of a waste to wait that long if the real swinger for the deal isnt available, and isnt going to be for a few years.

Bloody Kenya and IRAN of all places have started its deployment already!

N96 gets panned in all the reviews ive read.

I know its not out yet but its not looking good.

the only complaints ive read relate to the battery life, and the build quality of the samples.  I wouldnt expect samples to be finished products.  The N95 got panned when they looked at the samples as well, and most people who have them love them.

i know this is off topic, but my N95 is quite possibly the worst phone Ive ever owned.

nah its cool.  I did post up a thread elsewhere, but there wasnt much input, any is appreciated.  You got the 8Gb or the earlier model?  I know one of the lads at work hated his at 1st (its the older one without the 8Gb), but a recent firmware flash seems to have solved pretty much all of his problems.

What transmission model did the HTC Monet use?

Edit!

DAB-IP

Sorry, no use here - noone in my office knows about a UK operator deploying it properly (but this is hardware design/research office).

All I got was that the chips and hardware works well and performs well when moving (i.e. back of taxis) unlike the Japanese system.  3 weeks ago it was made the EU standard for mobile tv and theres some pressure to get it going across the continent but in the UK Orange, T-Mobile have already thrown some change at the tv over 3G standard.  Apparently the big killer is we havent turned the analogue system off yet (continuing till 2010/2012) so theres not much room for a broad deployment. There is however a big bandwidth auction due in the summer so that would probably be the earliest it would/could go live outside of London and trials.

so basically waiting for the N96 probably wont be worth it for the extra features?  Its a snazzy looking phone as well, just that the only reason over the 8Gb N95 is the ability to watch TV on it.
