Title: Socket A motherboards
Post by: Walrusbonzo on July 12, 2008, 13:33:07 PM
Anyone know anywhere I can source decent(I.E. Nforce 2) Socket A motherboard in the UK, brand new?

My sisters second PC is very flaky, random data corruption and other weird stuff going on, Im almost positive that its the mobo giving up.

I have also thought about replacing the mobo and CPU.  But whatever the solution it needs to be uber cheap as its only a second PC and not worth selling for spares.

Any other ideas?

Cheers

Sorry, I wouldnt be interested to be honest.  This PC has 512mb DDR333 anyway, so would just need a cheapo board, cpu and cooler.  I know I could get all that for less than £65 from Ebuyer.

Well, thinking about it I thought Id recommend to my sister not bothering wasting her money on fixing a PC that will not get used until my nephew is old enough.

Hes only just over 1 years old, so shell leave it for a few years and then well do a worth while upgrade.

The higher spec motherboards are hard work, a few suppliers with VIA and SiS chipsets, but it must be 3 years now since they had any new S939 motherboards out.

If you are getting all sorts of corruption, it could well be your PSU on the way out.
Have you got another one handy to try out ?
