Goblin

It's all fun and games until a 200' robot dinosaur shows up and trashes Neo-Tokyo... Again.

Is it just me that is extremely underwhelmed by the prospect of this movie and these fresh faced actors (except for Spock who seems to be the guy that plays Sylar in Heroes)?

Im not expecting much. I mean Im sure itll be full of stunning CGI, well choreographed action sequences and all of the other bells and whistles weve come to expect from film but J.J Abrams doesnt exactly fill me with confidence, all of his work (including Lost) has been decidedly "meh" to me and hasnt excited me in the slightest. The franchise is long overdue a shot in the arm (Enterprise doesnt count, that was a slap in the face) but why oh why they chose to re-cast such iconic people as Kirk and Spock is completely beyond me.

Edit : I forgot to mention, Simon Pegg as Scotty = Epic fail.

Sam

Just sounds like what you people were moaning about before Batman. HEATH LEDGER AS JOKER ??!?!? WTF? ?!??! .............. 2 years later ............ give the lad an oscar.

Please as usual - judge on the final material. Dont speculate on something being crap before youre seen in.

PS. Batman 3 is crap.

I dont recall ever slagging the idea off about Heath Ledger being the joker. In fact I dont think Ive ever commented on it, and it was quite obvious that hed do a good job with the role.

"You people" so far being Chris and me

I dont distinctly remember writing off Batman based on Ledgers performance (although I probably had little faith in his personal performance at the time - and who can blame me given his film career?), so its hardly the same. I have to wonder if anyone involved in the project has genuine Trek interest or following.

This is a fresh cast (the biggest stars being Eric Bana and Winona Ryder), directed by Abrams whos done a few TV series and Cloverfield, and has roped his writer buddies in with it too... lets be honest youre secretly writing it off already too, Sam.

Well Nexus was the worst one. he was ready to burn Nolan at the stake but now wants his babies.

Yes granted, Im not salivating at the prospect of this film but I never write stuff off until I see it. Id rather they make this and it be crap, than they dont make it at all because if they dont TRY then there certainly wont be a good star trek film.

I dont mind being underwhelmed if its going to lead me to be pleasantly surprised by a film that turns out to actually be very good. I certainly wont avoid seeing it or anything.

I think the worst thing that I always fear is going into the cinema and paying for a movie that turns out to be decidedly average. Obviously if you pay your money and get a great film it goes without saying that it was all worth while, and paradoxically if the film was awful I tend to amuse myself bitching and whining about it for days afterwards so yes, I get my monies worth. However if a film turns out to be completely "meh" then it leaves you in a strange sort of limbo-like existence where you cant amuse yourself kicking up a fuss about how crap the film was and being all vitriolic about it but you cant wax lyrical about it either.

I strongly fear that this film will fall straight into the "meh" category, although I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

I still cant see Simon Pegg as Scotty though. What the hell?

Mongoose

I really hope its good,

however they are doing something which I suspect is a very bad idea (prequel movie with different cast for well known characters) on an odd number. I will be going to see it, but Ill be very pleasently surprised if its good.
